Blessed with God’s love and grace, we celebrate gifts of diversity.

By Jesus Christ’s example, we welcome, in love, all who rejoice and worship with us.

+ + +

God’s spirit, given by Christ, flows through us as living water to wash, heal, and satisfy.

As a congregation we become a fountain, sharing this living water with others.

Fruits of Faithfulness

*Please stand, in body or in spirit. Text printed in bold italics to be read in unison.

Prelude This is My Father’s World Alex-Zsolt Chiming of the Hour Welcome

Introit

God, who stretched the spangled heavens, infinite in time and place, Flung the suns in burning radiance through the silent fields of space; We, your children in your likeness, share inventive powers with you; Great Creator, still creating, show us what we yet may do.

*Call to Worship

We have gathered in God’s presence, the One who etches grace on our hearts. We have gathered to worship God who writes compassion on our souls. Let us worship the One who is persistent in saving us. Let us worship the One who will never let us go.

*Hymn 35 Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty

*Invitation to Confession

*Prayer of Confession

Your words are given to us, Author of Life, so we might be reformed, but we are intent on changing others. Your words are offered to us so we might be transformed, but we are focused on conforming to our culture. Your words are spoken to lead us into new life, but we hold our old ways tight to our chests. Forgive us, dear God. Do not remember our sins, but continue to touch us with your steadfast mercy. Show us how to be persistent in living out our faith, even as you are tenacious in offering us your grace and life in Jesus Christ, in whom we pray.… (time for silent confession)

And let God’s people say: Amen.

*Assurance of Forgiveness

*The Peace of Christ

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you. Let us share the peace of Christ with one another.

*Affirmation of Faith The Apostles’ Creed (traditional version)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

in Glory to God: 340, 714, and 734.

LOUISIANA MISSION TRIP JAN. 22-28 The date is set for the Presbytery of East Tennes-

flood relief work following the devastating August

deluge of record rainfall. Working through Pres-

Fruits of Faithfulness

Our monthly focus on stewardship continues

today as the youth again harvest apples from

the Blessing Tree in the sanctuary. We hope to

harvest all of the 37 apples by the end of October,

signaling that we have reached our 2017 goal

budget of $367,000 (rounded up to $370,000).

The youth will also be passing around colorful

containers for a noisy offering that will be used to

benefit a local organization that advocates for

children and youth. Please feel free to drop your

spare change loudly into the cans!

The envelope in your bulletin is for your pledge

card, which you can place in the offering plate any
