Ft. Lauderdale Weekend Sometimes you just need to get away. Florida is the perfect state for that. People leave the north and its
rather chilly weather conditions for the Sunshine State like clockwork. However, all vacations don’t have
to be a week. A simple weekend getaway can be enjoyed by everyone, even if they live in the same
state. There are things in Ft Lauderdale that while, New York or Boston don’t have, Orlando or
Jacksonville don’t either. This article will focus on what you can do in a weekend in Ft. Lauderdale.
The first step in any good getaway is a place to stay. There are very good hotels all throughout the city.
There are four star hotels like the Hilton, located right on the beach. This hotel has all kinds of amenities
to make you stay full of rest and relaxation. If you’re bringing the little ones, they have children’s
activities and menu’s specially designed with them in mind. They have an onsite ATM, laundry service,
convenience store, tour desk and much more! For your fitness needs they have a full fitness room, bike
rentals and pool. For dining, they have quite a few options. The Le Marche Gourmet Market and Bakery
has lots of freshly made treats. In a casual dining atmosphere, you can partake of pizza, Paninis, salads,
gelato and so much more. You can also enjoy a nice glass of wine with your meal. If you want something
more upscale, stop by S3. Located right on the beach, you can enjoy coastal cuisine featuring cuts of
meat, sushi and daily catches. The Hilton is a great place to spend your nights and maybe even a day!
Now that you have a place to stay it’s time to see some local color. The perfect place to start is the
Museum of Discovery and Science. The Eco discovery Center they have will show you plenty about the
Sunshine State. There are five exhibit areas located here. Others at Play, Everglades Airboat Adventure,
Prehistoric Florida, and lastly Florida Water Mysteries and Storm Center. All of these will provide hours
of fun for your entire party and it’s only the beginning. Runway to Rockets, Powerful You and many,
many more are in store for you at the museum!
Finally, we come to the Bonnet House. Dating back to over 4,000 years of history, it doesn’t get much
more notable than here! From 2,000 BC and the Tequesta people to modern day, there’s plenty to learn
about this site. They have colorful gardens, tours of all the grounds, stories and other activities. The
hours are Tuesday-Sunday, 9am-4pm. They have tours all throughout the day, with the last one starting
at 3:30. The gates close at 4pm, sharp. Admission starts at 20.00 with varying prices for students,
children and more.
There is a lot more to do in Ft. Lauderdale. Beaches, historic sites, night clubs and more. There are quite
a few spots to enjoy a weekend getaway but heading just north of Miami is a great place to start!
