What is M-Commerce?
A form in which the merchant
communicates with customers using
wireless technologies such as mobile

(PD A).

Advantage of M-Commerce
Mobile commerce is not a magic wand, but an
infrastructure that enables solutions to business
problems.
m-commerce is ideal if your personnel, customers or
suppliers require notification and/or data entry at mobile
locations on a 24/7 basis.
Sales Force Automation is another area where access of
corporate information in real-time from anywhere,
anytime can be a competitive advantage.

Technology of M-Commerce
There are two major classes of technology inmobile commerce:
1. Notification is where one way messaging is
sent from the central application to remoteusers.
2. Transaction is where two-way communicationis needed with data input and output. Order
status queries or shipping/receivingapplications are typical transactiontechnologies.

Notification
Sending item-tracking numbers upon shipment
or airline flight status are typical examples of
Notification technology.
Typically, this is represented by SMS / PCS
Paging.
1. SMS - Short Messaging Systems
2. PCS - Personal Communications Services

Transaction
Order status queries or shipping/receivingapplications are typical transaction technologies.
There are five common technology choices today
for transactions:1. CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data)
2. Go America
3. SMR (Specialized Mobile Radio)
4. WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) 5. Mobile Data
Each has advantages and disadvantages, depending on the needs of users.

Transaction Technology
CDPD has been around since the early 1990s, with
excellent geographic coverage in the states. It is
marketed under multiple brands, including AT&T
Pocketnet service. CDPD is designed as an extension of corporate TCP/IP network.
Go America is a service optimised for Web-based
applications over low bandwidth wireless networks.
Go America is a five-year-old company with coverage inmost areas of the states by using a combination of
wireless carrier technologies.

Transaction Technology (cont¶)
SMR has been around for at least 15 years, marketed
under multiple brand names such as Motient (Formerly
known as ARDIS and American Mobile), Metricom's
Ricochet Network and BSMDS (Bell South Mobility DataService). They are positioned as extensions to wired
network.
WAP is commonly used in the new generation of mobile
phones. WAP systems are designed to take Webcontent and reformat the data around mobile phone form
factors ands devices, taking into account issues such as
the small display, and numeric keypad navigation.

Transaction Technology (cont¶)
Cellular data is a 20 year old technology which has
received very little attention compared with newer
platforms such as CDPD or SMR. It is simply using the
existing voice cellular network to carry data, which canbe done with almost every phone ever built. While not
popular today, it may be worth considering.

Wireless shopping
& NTT DoCoMo
The concept is enabling a machine to accept
payment for a soft drink or snack from a
mobile device operating in its vicinity. Vending machines also can be used to
download simple software to a mobile phone
-- such as a screen saver or a ring tone.
Though it seems simple and even fun, the
high-tech vending machine does have its
obstacles.

Wireless shopping (cont¶)
The cost of the system is a major consideration.
The mobile text messages needed to request
the drink and to send a message to the machineto release the beverage could add on 10 percent
or even more onto the cost of a soda.
The coca-cola¶s machines can find at major
transport stations in Australia-wide.

Mobile Fun club is allowed consumers to
download graphics, ring tones, screen
servers and so on. This kind of services
can be found anywhere with low-fee.
PD A is one of the most popular
mobile devices. It brining huge
profits in new economy and virtual
business world.
