a large bird found in India and the adjoining regions of Pakistan. It has a horizontal body and long bare legs, giving it an ostrich like appearance, this bird is among the heaviest of the flying birds. Once common on the dry plains of the Indian subcontinent, as few as 250 individuals were estimated in 2011 to survive and the species is critically endangered.

• When the "national bird" of India was under consideration, the great Indian bustard was a proposed candidate (strongly supported by ornithologist Salim Ali), but dropped in favour of the Indian peafowl for a slightly weird reason.

• Though she was awarded an OBE, Skarbek died in poverty stabbed by a man she rejected. It is believed that during the war she met the author of X and he then based a character in X upon her, the character’s name being somewhat similar to her codename at that time.

14.• The myth of Remus and Romulus is believed to have lead to foundation of

a particular city. They were purported to be twins of Rhea Silvia and Mars, the God of War. In the manner of many mythological heroes they were abandoned at birth because of a prophecy that they would overthrow their great uncle Amulius, who had earlier overthrown Silvia’s father Numitor(who ruled Alba Longa). They were abandoned to die in the Tiber river and were saved by a series of miraculous events.

• The river carried them to safety. A she-wolf found them and suckled them until they were taken by a shepherd and his wife. When they grew up they killed Amulius and restored Numitor to his throne. Rather than waiting to inherit Alba Longa they chose to found a new city. Disagreement upon the location of the city caused Romulus to commit fratricide and kill Remus.
