Note to the Reader

The purpose of this project was to expand my knowledge in geometry. It was meant to make me realize how much geometry exists in every day life and how much geometry we don’t realize in our every day life.

My theme of this project was based on music. Before this project, I never realized there was so much geometry in music, such as strings on a guitar, valves on a brass horn, and many other things.

I benefited from this project by discovering geometry in my everyday life. This project helped me learn valuable things about how geometry has a big role in music.

Rectangle

A quadrilateral with four right angles.

A stand is used to put your sheet music on.

Parallel Lines

Coplanar lines that do not intersect.

Drumsticks are used to play drums. There are many different sized sticks.

Point A basic undefined

term of geometry. A point is a location. In a figure, points are represented by a dot. Points are named by capital letters.

The dots on the frets are used to identify what fret makes the right pitch. They are also located on the side of the guitar.

Circle

The locus of all points in a plane equidistant from a given point called the center of a circle.

These knobs are used to control the volume and the tonality of a guitar and its amp. Most guitars have over two knobs.

Line A basic undefined term of

geometry. A line is made up of points and has no thickness of width. In a figure, a line is shown with an arrowhead at each end. Lines are usually named by lowercase script letters or by writing capital letters for two points on the line, with a double arrow over the pair of letters.

Guitar strings are plucked to play different notes. A bass guitar usually has four strings.

Cube

A six sided, 3D image of a square.

An amp is used to amplify a sound. It can be hooked up to a microphone, guitar, or even a keyboard.

Isosceles Triangle A triangle with at least two

sides congruent. The congruent sides are called legs. The angles opposite the legs are base angles. The angle formed by the two legs is the vertex. The side opposite the vertex angle is the base.

Guitar tuners are used to tune a guitar if it is either flat or sharp. There are many different ways that you can tune a guitar

Octagon

A 2D, eight sided polygon.

A drum pad is used to quietly practice drumming. This is only used as a snare practice pad.

Reflection

A transformation representing a flip of the figure over a point, line, or a plane.

A bass guitar is used to fill in the bass parts in a song. It is usually the sound that rattles your speakers

Cylinder the surface traced by a

straight line moving parallel to a fixed straight line and intersecting a fixed planar closed curve b: a solid or surface bounded by a cylinder and two parallel planes cutting all its elements

Drums are used to keep tempo. It can also be used to add color to the music
