Dear Hallowell Community

The month of November
affords you many opportu-

witness first-hand the tre-

children are receiving on a
daily basis.
To this end, please feel free
to join us in most grade lev-
els on Tuesday, November
18th and Thursday, Novem-

teachers have organized
their own specific schedule
with their dates and times.
Each of these days provides
you with the opportunity to
visit your child’s classrooms
to learn more about the
unique educational pro-
grams happening within our
school. At this point, you
should have received some
information and an oppor-
tunity to inform our staff
when you plan to visit.
All are invited to our first
“Coffee with the Superinten-
dent” event, taking place on
Friday, November 21 begin-
Happy November!
Giving Thanks — Thoughts for Our Students
On Thursday, November 27th, we in this country will celebrate Thanks-giving, where fam ilies gather together to feast and share time with one another. Usually, when students think about Thanksgiving, they think of Pilgrims and Native Americans giving thanks for the bountiful first harvest.
Actually, the history of Thanksgiv-ing goes much further back than Plymouth and the English colonists. In fact, people across the world from every culture have been cele-
brating and giving thanks for thou-sands of years. This time is a won-
derful opportunity to give thanks
for those in our lives who help make a positive difference—our family, our friends, our teachers and others in our community. It is also a fan-tastic occasion to let those individu-als know how much you appreciate them, whether it be a kind word, written note, drawing or other crea-tion. As your principal, I am thank-ful for the opportunity to work in such a fine school with such outstanding stu-dents each and every day!

One of the many great things
about Hallowell Elementary is
the wonderful role our parents
and community partners play
in providing engaging and
welcoming family events. This
past month was no exception.
Our Scholastic Book Fair was
held the week of October 13th
and was a huge success! “Sir
Readalot” would be proud of
our library decorated in a cas-
tle and medieval theme!
Thank you Mrs. Lindbloom,
our librarian, and our many
family volunteers for their
efforts!
One of the biggest highlights
was our annual Fall Festival,
held on Friday, October 17th.
For the third time, this event
was held off-site at the Market
at Del Val. It was a fabulous
evening, with a hayride, very
tricky corn mazes, and tasty
fall treats!
We held our very first Rock n’
Roll into Fitness 5K on
Saturday, October 18th! It
was a collective community
effort, truly a great time for
everyone! Look below for pic-
tures from this fantastic day!
Our “Race for Education”
will be held on Friday, No-
vember 14th, weather permit-
ting. The “race” times for the
different grade levels are as
follows:
2nd & 3rd Grade: 9:10-10:10
AMK & 1st Grade: 10:20-11:20
PMK, 4th & 5th Grade: 1:30-
2:30
quent instructional shifts that
will take place. From there,
families were allowed to move
to other areas within the
school building.
Informational sessions were
held in the library, art, and
health classrooms, as well as
in many other grade level
classrooms. Among other
topics, families learned about
On Tuesday, October 21st, we
held our Family Math and
Technology Night w ith a
variety of exciting and in-
formative family events at
Hallowell. There were many
engaging activities held
throughout the evening. Mrs.
Williamson began with a brief
overview of our the new PA
Core Standards and the subse-
e-books, Artsonia, Math Mus-
cle, the 24 Game, RAZ-Kids,
and Everyday Math games.
We also used our iPad Learn-
ing Lab, our Student Response
System and our video produc-
tion equipment as well!
Thank you to those who lead
and participated in this fan-
tastic family event!
