Info Night for Parents and Travellers

HAWAII 2012

• STATUS SO FAR• The trip has been approved by Senior

Management.• Dates have now been confirmed. We

have held airline seats and have booked the accommodation

• Cost will be dependant on the numbers of students. We need to have 25 students to make this feasible.

WHAT IS PROPOSED

• WHO:• Up to 40 Year 12/13 Geography Students• STAFF:• Mr Smith (Yr 12 & 13 Geography

Teacher)• Miss Sladen (Yr 11,12 &13

Geography Teacher)• • WHEN:• During the September School holidays

(2nd – 11th October)

COST:

• Will be in the region of $3000 but depends on final numbers. This covers:

• Airfare• Accommodation in Hotel• Transfers and tours• Airport Tax• Entry to Attractions• Most evening Food costs

SO WHAT IS NEXT?

• We will need to confirm seats in the next two weeks

• If you are sure you want to be on the trip:

• Fill in the contact form and return this to Mr Smith with the $500 deposit by hand to Mr Smith in R86 or the Social Sciences office

• Further payments will be needed to the school finance office at regular intervals.

• End of March $500• End of April $500• End of May $500• End of June $500• End of August $500• September - Remainder as/if needed

when exact costs are established.• Regular e-mails will go home to students

to keep parents updated. One additional evening meeting will be

held to give final details closer to departure.

Requirements

• Please ensure that you are eligible to enter the USA without problems. Those holding a NZ, Australian, British or American passport will have no problems. Other passport holders may need to ask a travel agent

Requirements

• Students must have met all their school commitments re fees/behaviour etc. to be allowed to attend the trip.

• The Geography Staff also reserve the right to refuse some students on account of their behaviour. There is a lot of trust involved in a trip like this that must not jeopardise the safety of the group.

The Itinerary

DAY ONE:• Depart from Auckland• Arrive the night before - Mr Smith’s walking tour• Tuesday• Breakfast at IHOP• Amazing race / orientation exercise• Diamond head climb • Group meal at Chillis • Evening swim at Waikiki

DAY TWO:

• Wednesday

• Round the Island Tour

• Dinner at Ala Moana Center

DAY THREE:• Visit to Factory Shops in Waikele• Tour of Sheraton Moana Surfrider• Hula Show and Dinner at Waikiki Plaza

DAY FOUR:• Friday• Volcano Day (optional extra) approx $300 extra - Fly to the Big

island and go to the volcano national park to find lava !• Or Visit the Museum, Zoo and take the trolley tour of the Honolulu

area

DAY FIVE:

• Saturday• Visit to Pearl Harbour and USS Arizona

Memorial• Visit to Markets • Hula Show at the Beach• Evening swim at Waikiki

DAY SIX:

• Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park

• Dinner at Cheeseburger in Paradise

DAY SEVEN:

• Monday

• Snorkelling at Hanauma Bay

• Tour of Moana Surfrider

• Dinner at Hard Rock Cafe

DAY EIGHT:• Tour of the Pink Palace

• Beachfront Hotel tour

DAY NINE:• Hawaii tourism development board talk to students

• Free Day in Waikiki

• Dinner at Chilis

• Depart Hawaii at 10pm

• Depart Hawaii at 10pm

• Arrive in Auckland a day later

Day NINE

Travel details

• Flying out on Air New Zealand Staying at the Ohana Waikiki Malia Hotel. Share triple or Quad rooms with kitchenettes.

• Travel via TheBus public bus system or a chartered bus for the tour and Transfers.

• Most evening meals will be covered in the total cost of the trip
