A GRIM REALITY

Over 1.25 million children die annually in India.

Diseases such as dengue fever, hepatitis, tuberculosis, malaria and pneumonia continue to plague India

58% of children have not completed their immunization schedule and 14% have not received a single vaccine

48% of all children have stunted growth due to malnutrition.

45% Indian women are married before they turn 18 resulting in early pregnancies, higher morbidity and

mortality rates.

12 million girls were aborted in the last three decades in India

50% of all villagers have no access to healthcare providers.

Infrastructure like hospitals, roads, water and sanitation are lacking in rural areas

About 70 per cent of our doctors live in urban India, whereas 70 per cent of our citizens live in rural India.

Situation for Urban Slum dwellers is worse

Government spending on healthcare is grossly inadequate. 39 million people are forced into poverty because of medical expenditure.

For the underprivileged survival is a struggle – basic Healthcare doesn’t figure in the scheme of priorities

GE Healthcare Modern MediCare Excellence Award as "NGO of the Year" for innovative contribution towards health care services for the poor & needy.

A 2009 report by the Rockefeller Foundation on Innovative Pro-Poor Healthcare Financing and Delivery Models has also mentioned of the SoW programme , “Focusing on women and children, Smile-on-Wheels is a national multi-centric mobile hospital program that provides medical care to rural and semirural areas and urban slums where healthcare are scarce, non-existent, or non-functional”

• Directly benefit over 16000 underprivileged annually through mobile clinics

Smile on Wheels is the national program of Smile Foundation.

Smile Foundation is a national level development organization currently reaching out to more than 300,000 underprivileged people directly through 160 welfare projects on the issues of education, healthcare, livelihood,

women empowerment, and advocacy across 25 states of India.

Smile Foundation dreams to take health services to as many underprivileged people as possible.
