In dit onderzoek wordt het conflict, dat plaatsvindt op Wikipedia, tussen de Wikipediagemeenschap en de troll-gemeenschap uiteengezet. Het open karakter van Wikipedia is de aanleiding voor dit conflict aangezien iedereen kennis kan toevoegen, bewerken, bekritiseren en verwijderen van Wikipedia. De trolls voeren strijd om de doelen en idealen van de Wikipedia-gemeenschap aan te vallen, waarop de Wikipedia-gemeenschap tegenstand biedt door vandalisme op allerlei manieren van Wikipedia te verbannen. Gaandeweg wordt geprobeerd antwoord te geven op de vraag of dit conflict ook gezien kan worden als een vorm van spel.
