How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

When creating our teaser trailer, magazine front cover and film poster, we wanted to create synergy between the three so that they work well together and the audience can link them together.

Our film poster and teaser trailer are of the horror genre so when creating our magazine front cover, we decided to make it a horror special to carry on the theme of horror.

In our teaser trailer we used the Algerian font in red, on our film poster we used this exact same font, in the same colour, and we also used the same font for the magazine front cover so that the audience could relate the three together.

In the teaser trailer, when the credits appear we used a background image of the forest where we filmed, on the film poster we also used the same image, however we edited and manipulated it in a different way, for the magazine front cover we once again used the same image but edited it differently, we did this because we wanted the main product and ancillary texts to work together however we didn’t want it to be too repetitive so we slightly changed it with each product

We used the same colour scheme with all three products so that they relate. We used conventional colours which relate to horror, such as red, black and dark dreary colours to reflect the mood and genre.

We were heavily influenced by other horror films so decided that we needed to feature some references to them. In our teaser trailer we had references to Paranormal Activity and The Blair Witch Project so the audience could see the style of film that we were trying to convey. In our magazine front cover we referenced the same films so that the audience could relate the two together, we also referenced other films which are classic as we wanted to show the audience that our film is original and authentic. In our film poster we didn’t directly reference any films but we used the same features as the Cabin Fever film poster so the audience could recognize the similarities and link the two together.

We have represented the character quite ambiguously, in our teaser trailer the main character (antagonist) is hardly seen so the audience cannot relate to the character which intrigues the audience to see the film to learn more about the character. Similarly in our film poster we have an image of the film setting but no image of the characters, we used this technique to show the horror genre, we wanted to make it mysterious and give the impression that the character was hiding. In the magazine front cover we had an image of the main character, we used an image where she was standing quite casually and had a neutral expression this made it hard for the audience to read the characters personality and emotions which will intrigue the audience into wanting to learn more.
