• Traditional communication technology like email is no longer effective

• Company is slow and reluctant to adopt- People normally don’t like changes

- Why change if everything is okay

- Not comfortable with learning new technologies

• Company may be lagging behind if good communication is not in place

- Information is slow to get across

• Communication is the vehicle through which people clarify their expectations and coordinate work, which allows them to achieve organizational objectives more efficiently and effectively. (McShane & Von Glinow, 2010).

• The advent of current communication technologies has offered a leverage to organizations

• Advantages• Faster dissipation of information• Action can be taken in a timely manner

• Disadvantage• Abuse or misuse• Everyone has to have a gadget – mobile phone, computer,

iPad, etc.

Facebook – Socializing and content sharing with friends, family members, interest groups

WhatsApp – Timely communication with individual or a group

Google+ - Almost the same as Facebook but less popular

LinkedIn – Professional socializing, recruitment and corporate information

Instagram – Mostly used by age group 18-29

Twitter – Keeping up with celebrities or personalities updates

Pinterest – 88% users are women
