8/15/2019 HW-Customer Newsletter - June 2016
1/4
We’ve got another ‘double-header’ newsletter this month. We’re not expecting to send newsletters every
month but there’s more to update you on with our worker co-operative and we’ve decided to give the
franking machine a go as there are lots of benefits in terms of reducing our postage costs etc.
Our front page this month is Maylands Care Home who looked after Tom’s Aunt Elly for so many years and
we’re determined to create a really nice Memorial / Sensory Garden that everyone at Maylands can enjoy.

We thought it was time to say a bit more about Mandy, who first started working for us back in
February and Mark, who has taken on much more since David retired in March.

Mandy Lovelace
Mandy spent many years in the care profession
before recently moving to managing the RSPCA
shop in Faversham. She is a keen gardener and wildlife lover and has tended to work one day a
week with us since February. She also really
enjoys working with Dave !
Mark Gaffney
Mark volunteered with Dave at HambrookMarshes in Canterbury for a number of years
before Kent Enterprise Trust sold the land. He’s
got a range of work experience, more recently in
school care taking, but his real love is working
outdoors so he was delighted when the
opportunity of more regular hours with us came
up earlier this year.
Our Pitney Bowes Franking Machine
Mark has been managing all our newsletter postage and after
the free trial in April which made significant savings in sending
our newsletters, we have signed a 12-month contract with
Pitney Bowes.
We enjoy sending our newsletters and we often find customers
we haven’t seen for a while, get in touch about work which is
always nice and helps us in terms of keeping us busy!
Our contract allows 10 different accounts so if anyone knows of
any other small businesses who would like to take advantage of
it and help us with the monthly rental, please contact Mark at

"I learnt a lot of new and interesting
ideas on this course. Lots of things that we
can incorporate into our work. We’ve had some
problems with blanket weed in a few of our
customers’ ponds recently and we’ve got some
good ideas on how to deal with it. ‘Every garden no
matter the size can look amazing’ was my
personal favourite message from the day”

May Workshops
Dave and Mark did a Guardian
Masterclass in Garden Design with
James Alexander Sinclair
“I
didn’t really know
what to expect from the one-
day workshop on foraging but I
picked up lots of really useful
nformation. One of our gardening
ugbears, ground elder, has a really
nice nutty, carroty leaf and I’ll be
volunteering for any weeding jobs
that come up in the future ;)”
Tom
Tom did a class
in Foraging with
Dave Hamilton in
West Sussex
I very much enjoyed the
Principles of Garden Design Masterclass,
and i've learnt a few things about making a
garden interesting enough to make people want to
look right the way round it and how to make small
gardens look bigger. We were also taught how best toprune Magnolia trees, encouraging roses to bloom
lower down the plant and treating box blight.
Overall it was a very good workshop!
