Dear Guest,
Welcome to the IDEX Young Professionals Group
yearly fundraiser! This is our 3rd year putting this
event together and we are excited for you to see
what we have in store this year! Thank you for
supporting the cause and becoming a catalyst for
change.
The IDEX Young Professional Group is made up of
passionate individuals from a variety of backgrounds
who are dedicated to grassroots poverty alleviation
and social justice in the global south and raising
awareness and funds for IDEX partners in Africa, Asia
and Latin America. We welcome you to join us!
CATALYST was developed to
showcase inspiring photos
taken around the world,
beers brewed exclusively for
this event representing the
countries that IDEX works in,
and small bites from local
restaurants in the Mission
District.
All proceeds support the
International Development
Exchange (IDEX). IDEX identifies,
evaluates, and grows the best
ideas from local leaders and
organizations to alleviatepoverty and injustice around
the world in 6 different
countries - Guatemala,
India, Mexico, Nepal, South
Africa, and Zimbabwe!
IDEX connects a passionate
and engaged network of
supporters to the visionary
leaders and organizations creating lasting
solutions to their communities most pressing
challenges.
Thank you again and most importantly, have fun!
Cheers,
IDEX YPG Leadership Team

In Guatemala, the legacy of war, coupled with
high rates of male migration, means women
are most affected by poverty. IDEX primarily
supports programs that promote womens
empowerment. Partners provide training on
womens civic participation and leadership
development, health education and food
security, and employment training.
IDEX supports rural and desert communities
in the state of Ra jasthan, where poverty and
illiteracy rates are higher that the average
in India. Partners work toward the creation
of self-reliant villages by providing health
resources, water development, and ensuring
the labor rights of mineworkers are protected.
Additionally, issues pertaining to land and soil
degradation, water conservation and localeconomies are being addressed through the
spread of agro-ecological farming practices.

In Mexico, indigenous communities and the
environment face numerous threats. IDEX
supports indigenous communities in Chiapas,
Hidalgo, and Mexico City to form collectives
that provide training and technical assistance to
small-scale entrepreneurs and those that help
communities grow produce to eat and to sell using
sustainable agroecology. IDEX partners have
installed rainwater-capturing tanks and wood-saving stoves, supported a 400-member savings
and credit association, and provided small loans
for grocery stores, livestock rearing projects, and
weaving collectives.
For many rural families in Nepal, agriculture is
their economic development. The introduction
of genetically modified crops has pushed out
local seed varieties, resulting in lost agricultural
practices and diminished soil and water quality.
IDEX partners emphasize programs in agro-
ecological farming practices. IDEX partners
are working with groups of women to combine
traditional farming methods with the latestscientific know-how, leading to greater food
production and increased income.

While South Africa boasts one of the higher
incomes per capita in Africa, it also struggles
with one of the highest rates of income inequality
in the world. IDEX partners provide training
on agroecology, environmental activism and
empowering women to confront the HIV/AIDS
crisis with strength and dignity. IDEX partners have
created solutions ranging from seed banks to HIV-
positive support groups, enabling communities todefend their rights, their environment and their
livelihoods.
IDEX is proud member of the Zimbabwe Alliance,
a collaboration of like-minded partners working to
strengthen civil society and promote democracy
and human rights in Zimbabwe. The Alliance has
supported more than 30 projects in Zimbabwe with
a focus on Constitutional and Legislative Reform;
Free and Fair Elections and Public Accountability.
