Taan Template Revision date: December 1, 2010 Page 1 of 1

In addition to the site specific strategy which may be included in this document, all operations carried out under this road construction plan must be in accordance with the information within the Contract. This document is only a map representation of the road profile document. The road construction designs, Terrain Stability Field Assessment Report and other applicable documents must be referenced in conjunction with this plan.

ROAD CONSTRUCTION STRATEGIES AND CONSTRAINTS

Construction Plan: Reference Taan road design and profiles - All road construction requires the employment of sediment control measures (silt fencing, hay bales and sediment catchment basins/sumps) - Culverts should be installed 30cm below road surface, on the existing streambed where possible and armored at the outlet - Strippings and organics must be kept out of the sub-grade except in the case of over-landing techniques - Fill material should be keyed-in after all organic material has been removed - Alternatives to ditching include: sub-drains (French drains), natural dips and swales, in-sloping and out-sloping Special Construction Requirements:

ISSUES OR CONCERNS ACTIONS TO ACCOMMODATE

Safety

Refer to Taan Pre-work document prior to starting Falling and Harvesting activities. Dangerous Trees outside of the harvest boundary – Operations will be in accordance with Work Safe BC Regulations. Where possible “No Work Zones” will be established. If the Dangerous Tree must be felled, mark an “X” on the stump in the field and mark an “X” on the map in the office. Danger Trees felled within a Wildlife Tree Retention Area (WTRA) or Reserve are not to be utilized. Adhere to Rainfall shut down criteria

Wildlife

A Wildlife Tree Retention Area (WTRA) & Land Use Order Reserve (LUOR) are adjacent to this cut block to allow for wildlife habitat and protection of a Type II Fish habitat stream. No trees are to be felled within the WTRA or LUOR except for safety reasons. The tree that is situated within the WTRA or LUOR (after falling) must remain in the WTRA or LUOR area. If any raptor nests, heron rookeries or other previously unidentified features are found operations within the immediate vicinity of the feature must be stopped until a plan to manage the feature is developed. If a bear den tree is found, contact a Taan representative immediately. No action is to be taken on the newly discovered bear den until Taan has reviewed the den. Rare Plant Species: N/A

Visual Quality N / A

Cultural Heritage If a CMT is encountered within the opening, whether alive or dead, standing or fallen, during any phase, logging will cease in the immediate vicinity of the CMT. Notification will be sent to Taan (Operations Manager), Natural Resources (MoFR, MSRM (Archeology and Registry Services Branch)) and the Haida Nation. Taan direction must be received prior to operations proceeding.

TSFA Prescriptions A TSFA was not necessary for this cut block.

Blasting Appropriate signage and closures are required.

RAINFALL SHUTDOWN CRITERIA Activities must shut down when:

- The total rainfall reaches 50 mm in 12 hours or less, or

- The total rainfall reaches 60 mm in 24 hours, or

- The total rainfall reaches 100 mm in 72 hours

Activities may start back-up when:

- The total rainfall is equal to or less than 30 mm in 48 hours, or

- The total rainfall is equal to or less than 60 mm in 72 hours

QUARRIES, PITS, AND SPOIL SITES DO NOT EXCAVATE A PIT, QUARRY OR SPOIL MATERIAL WITHIN THE RIPARIAN MANAGEMENT AREA OF ANY STREAM.
