After my last upload, I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do, but I really felt like I wanted to start making things... daily.

So I made the decision to start.

I started by picking the “biggest” or “most popular” news story of the day by filtering through Most Searched on Google, CNN Trends, what’s trending on Twitter, Google News, Most Read and Searched in the New York Times, BBC’s “Most Popular Now, Live World Map”, etc. Then I create some kind of graphic design piece for it and upload to my tumblr (thecollectivewhat.tumblr.com). On the following pages are the pieces I have created in chronological order.

Next StepsI am continuing to create daily pieces and will probably

do this until the end of 2012 after which I will start going back to the beginning of the year so that by the end of next semester I will have a piece for every day of 2012. I hope to create a new kind of collection of news information somehow, a new sort of timeline which focuses on the importance of news stories, their scale, and the way they span over time.

Sidenote: It’s interesting to see which pieces are liked more... due to the platform (Tumblr) the most popular pieces are the most pop culture related. Go figure.
