JOBDESCRIPTIONJobResponsibilitiesTheExecutiveDirectoristhechiefexecutiveofficeroftheNaturalHistoryInstitute(NHI).TheExecutiveDirectorhasbroadauthoritytoleadandmanagetheoperationofNHItofurthertheInstitute'smission,goals,andstrategicobjectivesasapprovedbytheBoardofTrustees.Primaryresponsibilitiesinclude:leadershipandcommunication,strategicplanningandpartnerships,publicrelationsandcommunityoutreach.TheExecutiveDirectorisalsoresponsibleformaintainingcollections,aswellasprioritizingscience,arts,andhumanitiesthroughprogramdevelopment,management,andimplementation.Alsoimportantinthepositionisfiscalmanagement,fundraising,andreportingtotheBoardofTrustees.Finally,theExecutiveDirectormanagesallhumanresourceissues.ProgramDevelopmentandManagement! ProvidesandmaintainsvisionfordevelopmentofNHIprogramsthatexemplify

integrativeandinnovativeapproachestonaturalhistorywhichincludescience,arts,andhumanities.

! Providesoversightforalleducationalprograms—includingfieldexperiences,onlineandin-personprograms,andgalleryexhibitions--toensurethehighestqualityinnovativeprogramsareoffered.

! Introducesandadaptsprogramideas,approaches,andmethodstoimproveefficiencyandeffectivenessofNHIPrograms.

PublicRelationsandCommunityOutreach! Establishesandmaintainsthelocal,regional,andnationalprofileoftheNHIthrough

public,professional,andpersonalcontactsthatprojecttheNHI’smissionandcommitmenttoexcellence.

! DevelopspositivemediarelationsandoutreachtoeducatethepublicabouttheNHI,itsmissionandactivities.

StrategicPlanningandPartnerships! Developsandarticulatesthemissionandlong-rangevisionoftheNHIasapprovedby

theBoard.Thisisaccomplishedthroughaformalprocessofreviewingandrefreshingafive-yearstrategicplaneverythreeyears.Thisplanwillincludeobjectives,budget(s),fundraisingplans,andoperationalgoals.

! Developsandstrengthensnewandexistingrelationshipswithpartnerorganizationsandindividualsandassurespropercontractualarrangementsaremet.

Administration,Budget,andPersonnelManagement! EnsurestheNHIoperatesasa501(c)(3)andACC-certifiedcorporationinaccordance

withallIRSandStatelawsandregulationsandmeetsallrequiredstateandfederalreportingrequirements.

! OverseesannualbudgetandpreparationofreportsforcommunicationwiththeBoardofTrustees.

! Responsibleforexemplarybusinesspracticestomanagepersonnelrecruitment,hiring,training,andevaluation.TheExecutiveDirectormaintainsasystembywhichemployeeswillhaveannualperformanceevaluationstoassuretheyhavemetjobperformancerequirementsandannualobjectives.TheExecutiveDirectorwillhaveanannualreviewbyadesignatedmemberoftheBoardofTrusteesafterfilingapersonalassessmentofperformancetotheBoard.

BoardofTrustees! AssiststheBoardofTrusteesindevelopingandcultivatingactiveandqualifiedBoard

memberstogoverntheNHI’sstrategicshort-andlong-termobjectives,todevelopneworganizationalcapacities,andmaintainadequatefundraising.

! CommunicateswiththeBoardChairperson,othermembers,andcommitteestoensureeffectivemeetingsandactions.Establishesagoodworkingrelationshipwithallboardmembers.

DevelopmentandFundraising! WorkswiththeBoardandDevelopmentDirectortoassurethatfuturebudgetaryand

fundraisingsystemsareputinplacetosustaintheNHI’sshort-andlong-termfinancialsecurity.

! Overseesfinalsubmissionofallgrants.! Maintainsregularcommunicationandcontinuedcultivationwithmajordonors,funding

organizations,grantmakers,andcorporatesponsors.Qualifications
