Taking it to the Community
A substantial way for Harvey to support his own recovery and help other parents is by telling his own story:
When he started drinking How he started drinking The cost, to himself and his family Years lost can never be regained Family patterns of coping No one is alone (Fields, 2010)
Hispanic Heritage
Being a Hispanic himself, Harvey understand his community and “speaks” their language. He knows that if he is going to help his neighbors and friends, they need to know what drinking did to his family. The goal is to stop
transgenerational substance abuse.
Harvey intends to relay what he has
learned: Don’t repeat my mistakes The cost of family is too great Children need “clean-n-sober”
parents Pass on healthy behaviors,
not unhealthy Talk, Feel, Trust Don’t be afraid to get help (Argosy University, 2011; Fields, 2010)
