PAVEMENT CONDITION INDEX
A Chip Seal is an evenly distributed layer of emulsified asphalt placed on an existing surface. Then a single layer of graded aggregate is embedded into the oil, rolled, swept and fog sealed.

3
Most cost effective process for maintaining asphalt
Emulsion helps to seal minor cracks and slows water penetration
Quick application
High friction surface creating a safer road
Double Chip Seal is two layers of Chip Seal stacked on top of each other.
Very durable and flexible – significantly reduces cracking Quick application (both layers)Gives extra life to the roadSolution for deteriorated pavements where budget constraints exist, and a single chip seal is not enoughIdeal application for gravel roads

Hot Chip Seal combines a Chip Seal and a thin lift of open graded friction course (OGFC) providing a double application of material. The Chip Seal provides a water resistant membrane and the Hot Chip Seal provides a wearing surface that will improve the profile of the existing asphalt.

Asphalt pavement needs structural strength Enhances road for a smoother ride Quiet surface treatment Improves skid resistance Great for use on high‐volume traffic roads Less expensive than a mill and overlay Rock on rock construction – extremely durable Long‐term investment strategy
Let contracts early in the yearAllow for flexible schedule if possible, otherwise determine a specific timeline
Determine proper specifications for type of roadwayRequire state of the art equipmentTest all aggregate for proper gradationsTest all aggregate to make sure it meets 3:1 or 12% flat and elongated specification
Verify material tickets for proper application ratesEnforce weather requirements
