How far do you agree with the quote in relation to the Treaty of Versailles?

Level 1 [1-3] Simplistic answer. Poor structure / lacking in detail / historical facts/figures

Level 2 [4-6] Agrees with the quote. Developed argument. Beginning to show signs of structure.

Level 3 [7-11] Disagrees with the quote. Solid argument. Clear structure / sound use of grammar – key words spelt correctly etc.

Level 4 [12-15] Balanced answer. Explains how the quote can be agreed with : discusses the role of hindsight. Analyses how the quote can be disagreed with : people at the time were pleased with the Treaty. Perfect use of punctuation, spelling etc.

• The League, during the 1920s, was fairly successful. Who can give me an example of an area where it was successful?

• Turn to page 244. Copy the cartoon.

• Task – on page 242 you have source 24. The source shows how American money helped Europe recover, economically, after WW1.

• Compare this with source 3 on page 245. What has changed or is different between the two diagrams? Is anything the same?

• A sound bite is a short extract or edited part of a person speaking – maybe in interview etc.

• You often hear them on radio broadcasts.• For example – after 911 many of the stories

included a quick sound bite of George Bush saying –

• “the American homeland has been attacked – we will stop at nothing to catch and punish those responsible or in any way connected with the attack”.

• It shows the feelings of the 6 main countries that were suffering in the 1930s.

• Write sound bites for each of the countries leaders to represent their view points.

• These do not have to be particularly long but must sum up the feeling of the countries leaders.
