In English + is called the “plus sign”. When we read an addition problem, we just say plus!

= 2 Pokey PigsIn English = is called the “equals sign”. When we read a math problem, we just say “equals”, or “is equal to”, or sometimes just “is” !

Add the ones: 4 ones + 2 ones = 6 ones

Add the tens: 4 tens + 3 tens = 7 tens

So, 44+32=76

Add the ones: 6 ones + 3 ones = 9 ones

Add the tens: 1 tens + 2 tens = 3 tens So, 116+23
