The educational institutions
in the Loyola campus are run by the
members of the Society of Jesus,
known as Jesuits. They serve as
educators with the aim of forming
men and women for and with others.
It is their belief that education should
make individuals feel responsible
for their society and be committed
in making this world a better place
for everyone especially the poor and
the oppressed. Loyola institutions
have been always ranked high by
higher Educational agencies and
reputed national magazines and true
to the Jesuit tradition, they earnestly
continue to strive and mould students
as creative, confident, competent and
compassionate individuals.
As part of its ongoing mission,
Loyola College Society (LCS) started
Women’s Hostel in its premises in June
2011. Loyola Women’s Hostel (LWH)
offers various facilities to girls of the
various educational units within Loyola
campus, namely: Loyola College
(LC), Loyola Institute of Business
Administration (LIBA), Loyola College
LOYOLA WOMEN’S HOSTEL (LWH)

of Education (LCE) and Loyola ICAM College of Engineering and
Technology (LICET).
COLLABORATION OF THE SISTERS OF ST JOSEPH
OF LYONS
Loyola College Society is proud and immensely happy to receive
the support and collaboration of the Sisters of St.Joseph of Lyons (SJL),
a Catholic Women’s Religious Congregation, with its headquarters in
France to administer and to manage the LWH. The director of the hostel
hails from the SJL. Therefore the hostel students are under the direct
management and care of the Sr. Director who will take care of the day-
to-day administration of the LWH.

To create tomorrow’s leaders who transform and empower the
society by letting their light shine.
Mission
To give holistic formation to girls in a nurturing, dynamic and
multicultural environment to make them realize their maximum potentials.

To prepare them to be morally upright, socially concerned and physically
fit citizens who would stand apart to be a true Loyolite
ADMISSION
Only after the admission in the College, a student is eligible
to seek admission from the hostel. The application form will
be available with the Dean of the respective institutions.
For Loyola College of Arts and Science, the admission into
LWH is routed through the Dean of Women students every
year including the seniors. Hence all the students are asked
to apply at the office of Dean of Women students for their
Admission into LWH
The cost of application is Rs.100/-. The filled in application
is to be submitted to the respective institutions.
The following are to be submitted along with the application
form.
Two stamp size photographs of the student.
One stamp size photograph of the parent and local
guardian.
Conduct certificate from the Parish Priest if the
applicant is Catholic.
During the time of admission, hostel fee for the whole
year (10 months) has to be paid.Fees can be paid through
DD.(Taken in favor of ‘The Director,Loyola Women’s
Hostel’,payable at Chennai).
The membership of the hostel is for only one Academic year.
At the beginning of every academic year, the students have to
re-apply for Hostel Admission

Identity and visitors card
Every hosteller can claim two visitor’s cards, one for her parents
and the other for the local guardians. These cards will have the
photograph, address and sign of the parents.
Every hosteller should have Hostel identity card with her while
going out or returning to the hostel.
Identity card has to be produced for scrutiny if security guard
demands at the gate at any time.
Visitors card is mandatory to meet their wards in the hostel.
OUR STRENGTH
a) Accommodation
Hostel provides a serene atmosphere and clean surroundings
to the students for their study and stay.
The rooms with different capacities are well equipped with
table, chair, mirror, hangers, cupboard, lights and fan.
Power supply and Hot water is available round the clock.
Purified R.O. water is provided in every floor with cooler.
Hostel campus is well equipped with Wi-Fi connection.
Technical services such as printing, photocopying and scanning
are available to the students.
Library is set up with value based books and magazines for the
students.
Students are provided with recreational facilities, like indoor
and outdoor games and home theatre.
Monthly mass, counseling and need based input sessions are
arranged regularly.

Series of competitions and tournaments are held to exhibit
their talents.
Celebration of various cultural and religious festivals are
organized.
b) Mess
The hostel provides both vegetarian & non-vegetarian
unlimited meals.
Grand dinner is provided during special and festive occasions
OUR EXPECTATIONS
a) Role of the parents and guardians
Parents and guardians should realize that their wholehearted
co-operation with the LWH administration would ensure the total
well-being and protection of their wards.
Parents who do not live in Chennai need to authorize a local
guardian, a trustworthy and concerned person, who will take
responsibility for their ward and help her in every way.

Permission letter/ mail from parents or local guardian is
obligatory for home going, study tour, overnight stay outside
the hostel. This letter should be submitted on previous day
of the student’s leaving the hostel.
Letter of permission from parents counter signed by
respective Dean or Vice principal has to be submitted to the
hostel Director, if any individual wishes to undertake any part
time job or extra course outside the College.
In case of serious illness, it is the responsibility of the parents
or the local guardian to do whatever is required for the
medical treatment.
Parents and guardians who wish to meet their wards should
write their names in the register maintained for them at the
entrance and visiting hours are from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm
b) Admission
Hostellers have to oblige by the rules and regulations of the
hostel. In case of any violation, they can be suspended or
dismissed from the hostel.
A hosteller who is irregular in attendance or having arrears or
disciplinary problem will not be re-admitted into the hostel.
Any hosteller who wishes to leave the hostel during the year
must produce an official letter both from her parents and the
respective authority of the institutions. Only then caution deposit
and mess fee will be refunded
c) Accommodation
Hosteller should stay in the room allotted to them by the director.
No pictures or other articles should be pasted or hung on the
walls, doors, windows or furniture.

No furniture should be removed from the room without explicit
permission of the director.
The windows facing verandah should be kept open always and
curtains must be put for the windows facing outside.
No electrical appliance such as heater, electric iron, electric
kettle and electric stove, hair straightner etc is permitted in
the room. In case, if any of these items are found in the rooms,
besides seizing the item, she will be fined Rs.2000/-.
Hostellers are strictly advised to avoid noisy situation during
silence/study hours. Midnight birthday celebrations and parties
are strictly prohibited.
Hostellers have to keep the room neat and tidy and they are
expected to use table cover to protect the table.
The respective roommates will be held responsible for any
damage done to any property or articles
d) Mess

MEALS TIMINGS
Breakfast : 7.15 - 8.15 am
Lunch : 12.15 - 2.15 pm
Dinner : 7.15 - 8.15 pm
For each meal, student has to bring the mess coupon to
the dining hall which will be scrutinized by the staff-in-
charge.
Students have to stick on to the mess they opt (Veg/Non-
veg) for the entire month.
If a group of students plan to be absent for any meal,
information has to be given to the Director on previous
day.
Students are strictly warned not to take food to their
rooms, if anybody takes food without the permission of
the Directors, she will be fined each time.
In case of missing mess coupon, the hosteller has to pay
Rs.30/- and get a new coupon.
Suggestions or grievance can be communicated to any
official of the Hostel (Director/Asst. Directors/ office
bearers) in person or through mail, or can be recorded in
the suggestion register.
Mess fee reduction may be claimed when the hosteller
goes on leave from the hostel for more than five
consecutive days.
e) Hostel & mess closure
During Christmas and summer vacations, Hostel as well as Mess
will be closed for certain number of days to enable the hostel to

have the repair and maintenance works done as well as a few days
of holidays to be given to kitchen and other staff members.
No reduction will be made in the room rent, electricity and
maintenance for any absence.
When the students vacate the hostel during summer vacation all
the belongings should be removed and keys should be handed
over to the office.
f) Discipline
All the hostellers except LIBA should be back in the hostel
before 7.30 p.m.All the LIBA students should be back in the
hostel before 9.30 p.m.
Each hosteller must personally sign in the outgoing register
before leaving the hostel and immediately on return. LATE-
SLIP will be issued only with special permission.
Any hosteller leaving the hostel before 6:00 am or returning
after 9:30 pm has to enter her name in the register kept
with the security.
Attendance will be taken every day at 7:15 pm to 7:30 pm
for LC, LCE and LICET students and at 9.20 pm to 9.30 pm
for all the LIBA students.
The hostellers who are not present for the attendance
in the specified timing will have to pay a fine of Rs.100/-
and students who go out after giving attendance will be
summarily dismissed from the hostel.
If a student is going to be absent from the college for any
valid reason, she has to get permission from the Driector.

On home visits if a student cannot return to the hostel at
the specified date she has to inform the Driector.
Hostel gate wi l l be opened at 5.30 am and closed at
9.30 pm.
Hosteller using mobile phone during study hours will be
fined and the gadget will be confiscated immediately.
In case any student takes a night out without permission of
the Director will be suspended from the Hostel for 10 Days.
g) Ragging
Ragging is a criminal offence which is strictly forbidden by the
law of Prohibition of Ragging Act 1996. Those who indulge in
ragging will be summarily dismissed.
h) Dress Code
Hosteller is expected
To dress modestly and appropriately.
To use casuals like ‘nighties’ only within the hostel premises.
To never meet any visitor unless you are dressed properly.
To use decent dress in public places such as mess hall, TV hall &
during common meeting.
i) General Rules
Students are solely responsible for all their belongings. Therefore
make sure that you keep all your belongings always safe and
secure.
No notice should be displayed or no meeting should be convened
without the explicit permission from the hostel administration.

Students have to wash their clothes only at the washing place in
the ground floor and dry them only on the cloth lines outside.
Respecting the multilingual context, students are encouraged to
converse in English.
Day scholars are strictly not allowed into the hostel.
Water availability in the bathing rooms will be in the following
timings.
5.15 am – 8:15 am
11.15 am - 12.00 pm
6.30 pm - 9.45 pm.
Office Timing
The Hostel office functions from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm on all other
days, except on Sundays and Holidays.
Permission can be taken only from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm in the
office.
j) Catholic Students
Remember that your catholic identity has played a great role in
securing an admission in these catholic institutions. So it is your
duty to safeguard and deepen your Catholic faith.
Catholic students have to attend the annual retreat organized
by the respective college/institution and are expected to attend
daily Eucharistic Celebrations. (6.30 am or 6.30 pm).
On Sundays, the Holy Mass in English is at 6.30 am and in Tamil
8.00 am in the College church. The students are expected to
actively participate in the Holy Mass without fail.

Hostellers are expected to live in harmony and cordial relationship
with deep respect and consideration for the others. Make use of the
facilities available at LWH, LC, LIBA, LCE & LICET to fulfill your own
goals and dreams, the aspirations and expectations of your parents
and Loyola management. LWH will cherish to nurture and further the
growth of well-behaved and responsible students, who shine in the
academics and extra-curricular activities.
