Divine Mercy Sunday

Dear Parish Family:

This joyous Second Sunday of Easter is known as Divine Mercy Sunday. How appropriate that we dwell upon the mystery of God’s awesome mercy as we hear a gospel that describes the institution of the Sacrament of Penance and as we witness the conversion of Thomas the Apostle to Resurrection faith with the words “My Lord and My God!”

When he canonized Sister Faustina Kowalska, whose visions gave rise to this devotion, the Holy Father, St. John Paul II, extended this feast to the universal Church. He also associated with it a plenary indulgence (remission of temporal punishment due to sin). The conditions for receiving this indulgence are that we celebrate this feast, receive communion, have received the sacrament of reconciliation recently, and pray for the intentions of the Holy Father.

The world is in dire need of the overwhelming mercy extended to us by God, who sent his only Son to save us!

May God continue to bless you and all who come to know of his love through you!

Yours in the Risen Lord,

Rhonda LaPierreRichard Manfreda

House Blessings and Enthronement of THE DIVINE MERCY

as King of Home and FamilyWould You Like To Have Your Home Blessed and Enthroned by Jesus, The Divine Mercy as King and Ruler of home and family?A long time tradition in the Catholic Church is having our home blessed with the new waters of Easter. The blessing prays that your home is filled with God’s Peace and Holiness.

A much more recent tradition is having Jesus, The Divine Mercy Enthroned As King of Home and Family. (On Divine Mercy Sunday, The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish will be Enthroned a Divine Mercy Parish during the 12:30 p.m. Mass!)

If you wish to have your home blessed and/or enthroned then kindly e-mail Deacon Leo Flynn and include your name(s), address, phone number, and e-mail address and send it to leo@theflynnteam.com . Also, kindly specify which days/dates and times may work best per your schedule to have your home blessed & enthroned (week days are available) and whether you are or are not a registered parishioner of our Parish.

Those without computers may contact Deacon Leo directly at 703 328 4762 and leave your name and telephone number (speak slowly and clearly) in his voice mail and he will return your call.

Men’s First Friday, May 3rd, with Deacon Leo FlynnThe monthly First Friday gathering of men who relate how they connect their practical business and professional experiences with their commitment to live by their tenets of faith is on Friday, May 3, after the 6:30am Mass. The speaker on May 3 is our Deacon Leo Flynn who is serving as the spiritual director for the August 27–September 5 guided pilgrimage to Medjugorje, a town in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It’s been a popular destination for Catholic pilgrimages as the site of the appearance of the Virgin Mary on Apparition Hill in 1981. Deacon Leo discusses the history and symbolic meaning of Medjugorje as a unique spiritual experience which can reinforce religious beliefs. We hope you will join us at Mass and for our discussion to discover myriad ways our faith is tested and at work in the marketplace.
