India Satcom events are warmly welcomed by all - the Government, the Regulator, the country’s central planning think tank NITI Aayog, the industry, the academia, the market researchers as well as the media. The previous event was held in December 2017. The occasion was graced by Hon’ble Minister for Communications Shri Manoj Sinha, Shri R S Sharma, Chairman – TRAI (Regulator for Telecom, ICT & Satcom), Smt Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary Telecom & Chairman Telecom Commission, the highest policy making body for Telecom in the country. The event also saw release of the Satcom White Paper by Hon’ble Minister of Communication, Shri Manoj Sinha, titled ‘Satellite Broadband & Digital India’. The event was attended by over 100 Delegates, 22 Speakers and was extensively covered by 30 media brands. The Media coverage extended to 10 Print, 53 Online & 1 Electronic outlet. The Hon’ble Minister even posted his inaugural address on his home page.
The event was sponsored by leading Satellite Players viz. Inmarsat, Hughes, Global Eagle, Intelsat, Asiasat, Viasat, Star TV & TATA Nelco. The event was supported by Ministry of Communication, Ministry of Electronics & IT (Meity) & Niti Aayog. The event obtained permission from Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs Govt. of India.
India Satcom Events
As a outcome of the event, recommendations were submitted to the Government of India. These included:1. �Remove�artificial�barriers�that�are�impeding�the�growth�of�the�industry.
2. Reform the ongoing practice of “windowing” for the assignment of satellite frequencies by WPC.
3. Allow VSAT Services to be provided without any restrictions and in any combination across India.
4. De-license the VSAT terminals so that the import/local manufacturing and sale of terminals can be easily done.
5. Expand the scope for existing Service Providers so that they can grow the market and take satellite Broadband access across the SAARC countries.
6. Liberalise the supply of satellite capacity.
7. Permit all uplink teleports for broadcast services to plan for contingencies such as natural disasters by entering into arrangements with similar facilities located in other jurisdictions and transponders on alternate satellites respectively.
8. Inclusion of Broadcasting Satellite Service (BSS) Plan Frequently bands so as to augment the total satellite capacity available over India.
9. Implementation of the National Digital Communication Policy (NDCP-2018) with regards to the India Satellite Communication and ease of doing business there off.
