March 2020
It’s amazing how quickly the seasons change. Just a few months ago we were freezing, and now it’s nearly SPRING - my favorite time of year.
This is that unique time of year in Utah where you can ski, garden, go for a walk, or golf, all in one day.
It’s my favorite time of year to hit the ski slopes with my kids because it’s a lot warmer and light later in the day when we go up for night skiing at Brighton Ski Resort. Do you remember the government shutdown last year? It seemed like such a big deal at the time. We were trying to get some real estate documents processed, and it took a few extra weeks due to delays in some of the offices around the country. But now we’ve all moved on and survived just fine! I will remember this January as one of the best for commuting to work over the past few years. We had some cold days but it seemed more rain than snow down in the valley which is what I prefer - less shoveling and an easier drive, but still lots of snow up high so that we have water in the summer. I look forward to seeing you in the office and hearing about your activities you have planned this Winter/Spring. As the late comedian Robin Williams said, “Spring is nature’s way of saying ‘let’s party!’” I hope you have a great spring and don’t forget to “Spring Clean” your home and “Spring Clean” your smile if you are due for a dental checkup or implant maintenance, or even your annual physical with your physician. Have a wonderful March, Spring is the most exciting time of year! Have a Happy New Year!

How “lucky” we are to have teeth! In a recent research article in the American Journal of Physical Anthropology,
an important discovery was found that shows how your baby teethand your first adult molars act like a journal. The scientists found
that events that happen during your first 9 months of development in the womb, as well as your first 2.5-3
years of life as a child are recorded in your teeth.
The main point of interest was deficient Vitamin D levels of the
pregnant mother, which was shown on the baby teeth and adult molars. This is
another clear example of how your teeth and
mouth connect to the rest of your body and health.
“AN EDUCATED GUESS”The students in a zoology class were shown a series
of slides. Each picture framed only the legs of a rare and exotic bird. Correctly
identifying each species was how the students would earn their final exam grade.
“This is ridiculous!” one student shouted as he marched up to the front of the room, slammed his incomplete final on the professor’s desk, and head-
ed toward the door.
The professor looked at the paper and noticed the student’s name was not on it. “Wait, what is your
name?”he asked.
The student turned around, rolled up the legs of his jeans, and shouted,
“You tell me!”

MISSED FEBRUARYHEART-HEALTH MONTH?
Here’s what Dr. Williams had to say on the WIHS Journal Radio Program about it!
“There’s a 20-200 percent chance of increased heart attack from an unhealthy mouth. Plaque, when it builds up, causes inflammation in our gums and a lot of people don’t have pain with
their gums even if they have bleeding gums. But that chronic inflammation is not good anywhere in our body and when we have that in our mouth it releases the inflammatory proteins that cause our body to start to think that there’s something
wrong. And over time it increases things like heart attacks and strokes and and even preterm birth.”
“YOU CANNOT DO A KINDNESS TOO SOON, FOR YOU NEVER KNOW HOW
SOON IT WILL BE TOO LATE.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
“TRAVEL IS FATAL TO PREJUDICE, BIGOTRY, AND NARROW-MINDEDNESS, AND MANY OF OUR PEOPLE NEED IT
SORELY ON THESE ACCOUNTS. BROAD, WHOLESOME, CHARITABLE VIEWS OF
MEN AND THINGS CANNOT BE ACQUIRED BY VEGETATING IN ONE LITTLE CORNER
OF THE EARTH ALL ONE’S LIFETIME.”- Mark Twain
