Fourth Sunday of the Great Lent

Those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth (John 4:24)

∗ If we look closely at the real purpose of this long dialogue between Christ and

the Samaritan woman, we realize that Christ’s goal was to correct the concept

of “true worship”. While she was trying to lead the conversation towards

existing conflicts between Jews and Samaritans, she found herself led

gradually by the Winner of the souls (prov. 11:30) to reveal her personal life;

in other words to reveal her weakness and sins.

∗ It is useless to worry about the place and time of worship if worship is devoid

of spirit. Yes indeed, we do often practice our worship not in truth and live it

not in spirit; but here He is Christ instituting for us the rule: true worship is the

place and time where God’s glory is revealed to man and man meets with

God. “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet”; this is how the woman reacted

after she gradually grew into the knowledge of Him, after meeting with

Him…”But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will

worship the Father in spirit and truth” (Jn. 4:23)

∗ Our early fathers identify two diseases that strike our worship, we the

believers, and corrupt it: 1) hypocrisy; and 2) habit. Hypocrisy is evil for it

substitutes the fountain of life (the living water) with human desires and

glories; therefore God had spoken by Jeremiah the prophet saying “For My

people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of

living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold

no water” (Jer. 2:13). Habit is a second evil in our worship that threatens our

ability to truly meet with God in our prayers, and leave us empty and unaware

with the riches that we could have acquired if we focus on the quality rather

than the quantity. Habit is these “broken cisterns that can hold no water”,

meaning that cannot hold the grace of the Holy Spirit as poured by God into

us.

∗ God is spirit, people look at the outside but He sees the inside. The living

water that He gives “become a fountain of water springing up into

everlasting life”; indeed, O Lord, when we accept the grace of Your Holy

Spirit, we accept to submit our will to Yours and have the eyes of our hearts

towards eternal life.

٢٤ : ٤ يوحنا – والذين يسجدون له فبالروح و الحق ينبغي أن يسجدوا

إذا دققنا النظر في مغزي الحديث المستطرد بين السيد المسيح والمرأة ∗. الحقيقيةالسامرية نلمس أن مخلصنا كان يھدف الي تصحيح مفھوم العبادة

فبينما كانت تحاول أن تثير مواضيع تختص بالعبادة كموضوع خ6ف بين اليھود والسامريين إذا بھا توجد مسوقة برابح النفوس الي الحديث عن ذاتھا

.وعن حياتھا الخاصة والكشف عن خطيتھا

في الوقت الذي لم تكن حياتھا ملتزمة بمباديء الدين، فما نفع العبادة؟ وھل ∗ذا فقدنا الحياة من العبادة أن نجد المكان؟ إننا في كثير من ا�حيان ما يھم إ

ولكن ھوذا السيد المسيح . نمارس عبادتنا ليس بالحق ونحياھا دون روحيرسم لنا م6مح العبادة وھي الزمان والمكان الذي يتجلي فيه مجد ا�نسان

Qا أجابت المرأة بعدما ھكذ" يا سيد أري أنك نبي ... " ويلتقي ا�نسان فيه باولكن تأتي ساعة، وھي ا*ن، ... "تدرجت في معرفة هللا في لقائھا مع هللا

بحسب ما يقوله –ھناك مرضان يصيبان عبادتنا، نحن المؤمنين، فيفسدانھا ∗والرياء شر يستبدل ينبوع الحياة . عادةالرياء وال وھما –اباء كنيستنا ا�ولون

ويسلب مكان هللا في العبادة ويبدله با�مجاد والرغبات ا\نسانية، لذلك تكلم تركوني أنا ينبوع : *ن شعبي عمل شرين: " الرب في أرميا النبي قائ6

والعادة ھي ". المياة الحية، لينقروا *نفسھم أبارا، أبارا مشققة B تضبط ماءيعطل حقيقة لقائنا مع هللا وتتركنا فارغين وغير مدركين أنه وضع شر أخر

لنا من قبل الرب نفسه أن نستقي بوفرة من غني مجد نعمته إذا ما أھتممنا ھكذا فإن العادة ھي تلك ا�بار المشققة التي bتضبط ماء، . بالكيف قبل الكم

اي bتحفظ نعمة الروح القدس كما سكبھا هللا فينا

وبينما يري الناس المظاھر يري هللا الداخل، الماء الذي يعطيه هللا روح ∗، حقا يا ربي فعندما نفتح قلبنا يصير فينا ينبوع ماء ينبع الي حياة ابدية

للروح القدس فنتقبل نعمته، نقبل أن نسير الي حيث الروح يشاء وتكون أعين .قلوبنا نحو البديةوb سواھا
