A fair entry of prime cattle for the first market after the Christmas and New Year break. Quality cattle forward which sold to a firm trade and plenty of demand around the ring. Top price per kilo was 219p for a Limousin x heifer from a lovely run of bullocks from Messrs. W.T. Bryant & Sons of Mawgan, purchased by Chris Dale Butcher for his Helston Shop. Top price steer from the same farm being another Limousin x weighing 688kg and realising 217p/kg and £1,493 to Trevarthens of Roskrow.

A light entry with a difficult trade for all cows as is being found in other regional markets. An Aberdeen Angus cull bull topped at 96p/kg for Mr. A.J. Bostock of Stithians, Truro who also had top price cull cow at 94p/kg being a British Blue x, both bought by David Ellis of Lelant.

A decent calf entry with some cracking prices and a solid trade as buyers and farmers look to replenish after the Christmas break. Leading at £365 was a three-month-old Charolais x bull for Mr. R.D. Withers of Probus with Limousin x bulls to £305 for a month-old calf from Mr. M.J. Brown of Scorrier. Aberdeen Angus sired bulls at the same age selling well to £255 for J.O. Nightingale Ltd of Whitecross. On the heifer side, Limousins from Messrs. S.M. & J. Blee of St. Martin led at £200 and £185 with British Blue crosses to £182 for Sixty Acres Ltd of Zelah.

A good entry of finished hoggets presented for the New Year Market were greeted by a flying trade. No less than 13 pens breaking the £2/kilo barrier to a top of 208p/kg twice. Firstly for a pen of shapely Texel x hogs from Mrs. E.M.J. Eggins of St. Breock and also for meaty 40.8kg hogs from Messrs. G.M. & J.A. Olver of Lanivet, both pens purchased by J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station. A good run of well-finished hogs from Mr. N.F. Dalgarno of Tregony saw his best pens topping the market at £96 and £95.50 to J.V. Richards Ltd and Trevarthens of Roskrow respectively.
