Types of newspapers

Usually newspapers are divided into two groups:

quality and popular. Quality papers contain

political, economic news, popular papers

have short articles about celebrities, crime, large headlines and a lot of

pictures. Though now it is almost

impossible to classify all the Russian newspapers

into these groups.

Local papers

In our Republic we have some

newspapers too. They usually write about local news. The papers also include weather reports and a TV

guide.

The most popular newspaper in

Cheboksary is “Pro gorod” because it is

delivered free.

The "quality" papers are for more serious

readership. These papers are bigger in

size, with larger articles and more detailed

information. They are - "The Times", "Daily Telegraph", "The

Guardian", "Financial Times", "The Independent".

The popular papers are less in size, with many pictures, big headlines and short articles. They are easy to read. They

are such papers as "Daily Express" "Daily mail", "Daily Mirror",

"Daily Star", "The Sun" and others.

Where are the broadsheets and tabloids?

Teenage magazines

A lot of young girls in Russia like to read magazines “Cool”, “Oops”, “Все звезды” because they have glossy colourful covers and include beauty and fashion, celebrity gossip, horoscopes, quizzes.

Boys prefer reading music magazines and about sport, such as “Football”, “Fishing” and others.

Conclusion

Though newspapers are not so popular nowadays as Internet or TV, there are a lot of people who prefer reading to watching.
