Course Schedule
COURSE SCHEDULE
Tuesday 13:40 - 16:30, Lectures are at ME G203.
Course Policy ME 575 Nontraditional Production Processes 4
• Learn non-traditional manufacturing processes,
related tools, machine tools, equipment, ...
• Gain the ability to identify and to compare the non-
traditional manufacturing processes.
• Gain the ability to decide on the most appropriate
non-traditional manufacturing process(es) for a
specific task.
• Make literature survey on the state-of-the-art
non-traditional manufacturing applications, prepare a
review report (paper) and present the information to
the class; thus be aware of recent developments.
Objectives
Course Policy ME 575 Nontraditional Production Processes 5
• Project (50 %)
• Literature survey on the state-of-the-art non-traditional manufacturing applications, process modeling, etc.
• Report (paper) writing,
• Presentation to the class.
• Final Examination (50 %)
• Multiple-choice and text type questions, problem solving.
• Closed book and notes.
• If attendance is over 70 % Bonus up to 5% maximum (70% gets 0, 100% gets 5% bonus)
105 % TOTAL
Grading

FINAL EXAMINATION
Examination date, hours, and places will be announced
by the Mechanical Engineering Department.
MAKE-UP EXAMINATION
Make-up examination may be given to those with valid
excuses (i.e. medical report, ...) approved by the
Mechanical Engineering Department.
If you are eligible to take the make-up examination,
you must contact the course instructor or the course
assistant.
Examinations
Course Policy ME 575 Nontraditional Production Processes 7
• Students who want to take the course should
attend the first lecture of the semester.
• Class attendance will be taken starting from the first
lecture.
If your class attendance is less than 65.0 %,
regardless of your other grades, NA will be given as
your COURSE GRADE at the end of the semester.
If your course grade is NA, you will not be able to
take the FINAL examination.
Lecture Attendance
Course Policy ME 575 Nontraditional Production Processes 8
Since I am sure about that, there is no
need to say:
“Attend your friends’ presentations.”
Lecture Attendance
Course Policy ME 575 Nontraditional Production Processes 9
• Your class attendance percentage will be determined by dividing the number of lecture hours you have attended, by the total number of attendances taken throughout the semester.
• Class attendance will be taken for every lecture hour.
• In case a lecture is not given for any reason, attendance is not taken.
• Therefore, attend classes starting from the first lecture of the semester, and don’t try to reach 65.0 % attendance requirement within the last month of the semester.
• By doing so you may not be able to reach 65.0 % attendance.
65.0 % Attendance
Course Policy ME 575 Nontraditional Production Processes 10
• Why 65.0 %, but not 100 % ?
The remaining 35.0 % is for the lecture days in which you ...
● have medical report,
● are officially participating in an University activity,
● have to do something personal,
● ..., etc.
65.0 % Attendance
Course Policy ME 575 Nontraditional Production Processes 11
• You should attend at least 65.0 % of the
lectures, regardless of whatever your
excuse is; including medical reports.
• The remaining 35.0 % is for your whatever
excuses.
• Medical reports will not be considered
during calculation of the class attendance
percentage.
65.0 % Attendance
Course Policy ME 575 Nontraditional Production Processes 12
• If you have long term medical issues, so
that you won’t be able to attend 65.0 % of
the lectures, you are recommended to
apply for a leave-of-absence.
• A student who wishes to take a leave-of-absence for
a semester due to health issues, attaches the
medical report to the petition for leave-of-absence
and presents these to the chair of the concerned
Department .
• The medical report must cover 1/3rd of the semester
for the request to be taken into consideration.
65.0 % Attendance
