MEASUREMENT OF BUILDING WORK (A)
Task -01
1.1 Any construction work measurement is getting an important place. So we should know important and principles of measurements. We want to get correct and accurate measurement for this we use SMM7 this standard method of measurement provides a uniform basis for measuring building works and ombidies the essentials of good practice. Bills of quantity shall fully describe and accurately represent the quantity and quality of the works to be carried out. More detailed information than is required by these rules shall be given where necessary in order to define the precise nature and extent of the required work.
SMM7’s including following type of information Use of the tabulate rules 1. Generally 2.Classification table Quantities
1. Supplementary rules Descriptions Drawing information Catalogued or standard components Work of special types Procedure where the drawn and specification information required by these rules in
not available Fixing, base and background Composite item Work not covered Symbols and abbreviations Work to existing buildings General definition
For this information we can take measurement easily and quickly so SMM7 is more important for building works.
Principles of measurement practices
For the measurement quantity surveyor using by following stationeries this are called as surveyor’s stationeries.

the work time only after working these are removed or finished so that has cost such as,1.Water for work2.Supervision3. Temporary work.
Temporary road Hats / office Electric supply
4. Scaffolding.
2).Sectional trade bill
There would be a number of sectional trade bills in accordance with the scope, or complexity of the project. All the measured work in according with the SMM7 will be inserted in to sectional trade bills, such as,
*Bill No.2D-Ground work
*Bill No.3F-Masenry
*Bill No.4E-In-site concrete etc.
3).Preambles.
Preambles are clauses usually inserted at the head of each work section bills, and principally contained descriptions, together with another relevant information of which the contractor should be aware in pricing. Inserting the preamble in the BOQ the length of the work descriptions are reduced and the specifications is not necessary if they provide the information. Another procedure is to combine all preamble clauses in a separate bill, following preliminaries.
Functions of preambles
۩ Specify quality of materials.
۩ Specify the standard of the workmanship required .
۩ Assist in pricing measured work.
۩ Repetition of same information item by item will be avoided and hence the work
Descriptions will be more concise.
4).Money provision.
BCAS Page 10
MEASUREMENT OF BUILDING WORK (A)
There are two types of money provisions that are inserted in to a BOQ
