Usage and Dissemination Reports

Presenter
Presentation Notes
In addition to citing a publication a published author is also able to generate usage reports that lists all of the users who have viewed and/or accessed their published resource. The usage reports include the names, institution name, country and email address of each user who has viewed their publication in MedEdPORTAL. Based on the MedEdPORTAL privacy policy, authors are allowed to contact the users who accessed their resource in MedEdPORTAL and ask them if and how they utilized their resource at their respective institutions. This usage information can be compiled and used to supplement an educators CV or portfolio to help them with their promotion efforts.

Submission to Publication Process

Presenter
Presentation Notes
The following demonstrates the entire submission to publication process. Upon submission all resources are screened for potential copyright and patient rights violations. We have a team of screeners who look at ever single web page, PowerPoint slide, word document, pdf file and so on to determine if there are any potential copyright violations. Typically, 95% of submissions to MedEdPORTAL contain copyright violations. Our team of screeners work with the submitting authors to resolve all of the copyright violations prior to passing the submission to peer review. During the peer review process, each resource submission is sent out to 2 external peer reviewers in the area of expertise. For example, a pharmacology resource would be sent out to two educators in the specialty area of pharmacology. After completing the reviews, all reviews are sent to the editor of MedEdPORTAL who makes a final publication decision based on the comments and recommendations from the peer reviewers. The editor can make one of three decisions. The first decision is to Accept and move forward to publication. The second potential decision is to “Accept with Revisions.” All of the comments from the reviewers are sent to the author with a list of items that need to be corrected or changed in the original submission resource. The author is given the opportunity to make the changes and send back the revised resource. If the author addresses all of the items identified during the review then the resource will be accepted and sent to publication. The last option is to reject the submission. Prior to publishing the resource on the MedEdPORTAL website, the resource is sent to a library team who identified all of the appropriate keywords and disciplines to be associated with the publication. Once the resource is catalogued it is then formatted and published on the MedEdPORTAL website. The entire process can take between 2-3 months.
