• Fish– salmon, herring,

eels– fresh, smoked,

salted

• Other meats– Beef, Bacon,

Lamb

• Vegetables– eaten with

meats– grown in the

castle garden

The Peasants

• Breads– barley– rye

• Drinks– water from the well– ale from the barley– sweetened with honey

• Protien– peas– beans

• Pottage– thick soup– Onions, cabbage,

garlic, nuts, berries, leeks, spinach, parsley

– fatty bacon, salty pork

Let’s EAT!!Baked Apples in Pastry• 2 apples• 3 cups flour• 1 1/2 tsp. salt• 3/4 cup vegetable shortening• 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese• 10-12 Tbs. ice-cold water• 1/2 cup (1/2 stick) butter• 1/2 cup sugar• 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1. Combine flour, salt, vegetable shortening, and cheese.

2. Add in water.

3. Peel apple and cut into chunks.

4. Roll out dough and cut into rectangles.

5. Combine butter, sugar, and cinnamon and spread on dough.

6. Place apple on rectangle and roll up dough.
