meet Charlie
(a Person)
What is Enterprise 3.0?
A.K.A…
mr. Enterprise 3.0
(a Nickname)
Charlie works here (a Place), for an Organization
and here… (another Place, for the same Organization)
Charlie’s Project team is spread across ... Locations (Countries, States, ...)
so Charlie has to FIND ways of working in a global team (a Group), in different time zones and with People he has never met……..
this is Charlie’s boss…
(another Person)
Charlie subscribes to his blog (a
Data Container) via an RSS feed (another Data Container)
He feels like he knows him real well, and always knows what he’s thinking and where the company is heading.
he’s never met his boss in person
his boss subscribes to it via an RSS feed
his team subscribes to it via an RSS feed
130 people he doesn’t know subscribe to it via an RSS feed
they all feel like they know him and his project real well
Charlie also has a project blog (another Data Container)
Charlie uses BaseCamp (another Data Container) to manage his projects…….
he assigns tasks (Data Items) & deadlines (Data Items) to team members online.
team members communicate (Discuss) & check off tasks online
Charlie monitors progress and workload online
Charlie likes tools like BaseCamp because they are lightweight, easy to use, and quick…
oh, and it has RSS…
No training needed for new team
members – sign up and go
Charlie uses the company wiki…(another Data Container) a lot
the wiki is accessible and editable by everyone at the Company
to create their own user documentation (Data Containers)
he encourages other users (People) to use the company wiki…..
that's less work for Charlie…..
….and empowerment for the users
collaborative documentation…
Charlie stores & tags (Data Items) all his content (Data Items) on the intranet
….everyone can see them….and he can see everyone else’s
his tags highlight his interests & stuff he’s keeping an eye on
he can see who else is interested in the same things by exploring
tags
Charlie’s boss & project team use the same
Social Bookmarking app……
…..they subscribe to each other’s tag feeds via RSS
this is Carole (a Person)
Charlie’s colleague & mentor
Carole normally has lots to say………
so she creates audio podcasts (also Data Containers) which are aggregated throughout the company and associated with her Personal ID
when a new podcast is available from Carole’s blog.....
Charlie is notified via RSS
He can explicitly FIND it via a Query
OR
He may stumble across it serendipitously!
OR
……….he then downloads, listens & syndicates the podcast on his own blog
Charlie also has a Personal ID associated with each of his profiles……
….so does his boss
….and most of his team. In all cases, these Personal IDs take the form of Hyperlinks
….in fact, he found his job by
using Links across
Socially Linked Data Spaces
to FIND or Serendipitously
Discover Contacts and Opportunities,
with
PRECISION!
….if people don’t know what you can do…..why would they ask you to do it?
Charlie says……..
Leverage Hyperlinks when Identifying & Describing Yourself!
you see….
…Social Networking is not just for kids!
from his tags, his blog, his wiki, his Tweets, and other data spaces ………
people from different departments, social networks, etc., often discover Charlie Serendipitously!
…just to say Hi….or to say, hey, I work on a similar project, how can we collaborate…?
It’s about Socially enhanced
Collaboration!
Many moons ago Charlie was using these tools …..
all on his desktop….
Most recently he was excited about access to these hosted
Web 2.0 apps…..
all through his browser….
today Charlie has morphed them into Virtual Linked Data Spaces …..
all accessible through any web client….
...ask Charlie what his favorite piece of software is………..?
if you were to…….
...he’d give it some thought……
...and say it was a trick question……
...ask Charlie what his favourite Web 2.0 apps are………..?
if you were to…….
...he’d give it some thought……
...and say that was a trick question also……
...and then answer with………
Anything that Reads & Writes Structured Data via HTTP Hyperlinks
..as Charlie uses his favourite web client for all data interactions
across his Virtual Data Spaces..
...ask Charlie what Enterprise 3.0 is………..?
...he’d say he
hates buzz words………
...but it’s most definitely driven by
Structured Linked Data accessible across public (WWW) and private (Intranet or Extranet) Networks
..Data Virtualization across: blogs wikis podcasts social networking online collaboration
tagging thread conversations..
…basically, Structured Data than can be accessed, referenced, and represented via HTTP-Hyperlink based Data Source Names …aka., navigable or clickable Data Objects
Charlie’s a Data JEDI
Enterprise 3.0 …..
initiated by those passionate about Web 3.0
and implemented by people like You!
