MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH
Dear Friends in Christ,
August is another wonderful month at Messiah as we finish out the summer and transition to the fall program year. Please make sure you are inviting others to come and share in Messiah's wonderful worship and numerous ac-tivities.
Vacation Bible School (VBS)
VBS is August 1-4 and is open to the whole community. Thanks to Thrivent Choice for providing significant support so VBS can be offered at a reasona-ble cost per student/family. Please invite your neighbors and friends to bring their kids—it's going to be great!
Camilla Bjorklund Worship Minister
Camilla will become Messiah's Interim Worship Minister on August 1 when she returns from her month long studies in Paris, France. Camilla will be helping plan and leading worship each Sunday; practicing with and leading the Praise Band; deciding on choir music and preparing to begin rehearsing with Messiah's Choir in September. Welcome Camilla!
Harvest Festival Worship
Messiah is organizing, leading and I am sharing the message at the annual Harvest Festival Service in the park on Sunday, August 14, 9:30 A.M. Since this weekend is also celebrating the 125
th Anniversary of Hoffman this will be
an extra special service. Please pray that this will be a great day as we share worship and Christ's love with the community.
Amazing Messiah Volunteers/Helpers
Messiah is an amazing church in that there are lots of individuals who will-ingly and regularly volunteer and help with so many things. Many of these people often go way above and beyond what is expected. One example is all the people who said “yes” to help with worship when I was out of town two Sundays in July.
In these past weeks we have also seen volunteers paint the stripes in the parking lot; serve meals in the park and at Saturday evening services; give extra cleaning to the church with the Children's Team members cleaning/organizing the nursery toys and supply room; leaders spending countless hours on succession planning and revising building policies; along with many other tasks. Thanks to each person who has helped in any way—you are wonderful!

Financial Giving Reminder
Each of the six years I have been at Messiah there has been a regular downturn in giving during the summer months (except last year with “Grace For The Journey” bringing in some very gener-ous summer giving.) Please remember to keep your giving up to date in the summer—to give as God has blessed you so Messiah's stewardship will continue to grow stronger. Thanks to each one for your support and generosity!
Interim Youth Minister
Messiah has not yet received any applications for the Youth Minister position. Please keep net-working and spreading the news about this great ministry opportunity. Job Descriptions and Appli-cations are available from Becky in the Church Office.
God is so good!

NEWS NOTES FROM ARLOU AND SYLVIA SWENSON
Fourteen Messiah women enjoyed a potluck luncheon at Marlene and Vernal Nelson’s lake cabin on July 19
th. Pastor led us in a Bible Study on James 2. Thank you Marlene and Pastor for a
very enjoyable day.
On Wednesday, July 20th,
Beverly Yochim and Lorraine Bredy served donuts to the residents of the Barrett Care Facility on behalf of Group 1 following the worship service. Thank you. The res-idents and staff really enjoyed the treat.
The Summer of 2016 is quickly passing with a lot of activity planned for August and Septem-ber so we wanted to keep you updated on important dates for you to mark on your calendar.
Messi-
ah Women will be serving for the Farmers Market on Wednesday, August 3rd
. The Vacation Bible School students will present a program at that time too. Plan to attend. There will be a sign-up sheet at the Welcome Center for workers for before and during the serving the meal.
Our mission of the month for August will be on baby quilts and other needs for Ronald McDonald House. Sunday, August 7
th the women serve coffee and the money given will be sent to
them along with some crib quilts. We will begin quilting again on Thursday, September 1st. We will
be having a general meeting on Thursday, September 15th. We will review the calendar for the year
and add new members to groups.
August is also the month that we donate articles for school kits. Each kit includes; 2 pads of spiral notepads, 8 ½ x 11 wide ruled paper, 70 sheets, 1 pair of blunt scissors, 1 30 cm metric rulers (rulers with inches on one side and centimeters on the other side are acceptable), 1 small pencil sharpener, 6 unsharpened pencils with erasers, 1 2 ½ inch eraser, pens, black or blue ink (no gel ink), 1 box of crayons (16 or 24 crayons.) With a lot of stores featuring back to school bargains in August it is a good time to stock up if you are able. We have lots of material and patterns to sew the cloth bags to enclose all the items. If you would like to sew some please give Arlou or Sylvia a call and we will get them to you.
An added reminder for those of you that get to garage sales this summer. If you see bar-gains for layette items please keep our missions in mind. We are always in need of infant (6-9 month) jackets or sweaters with a hood or not. We include a baby cap if needed. Infant long gowns or sleepers without feet and cotton or flannel receiving blankets are also needed. We also need cloth diapers and bath size Ivory soap.
Thank you again for all you do and who you are and thank God for all the blessings he has bestowed upon us. Enjoy the rest of the Summer, it is passing by too quickly!
