In 2013 the agricultural sector still dominates the economy of Pagar Alam, its
contribution to the total GDP has amounted to 25%; followed by trade, hotel &
restaurant with a contribution of 23%. The building sector is in third place with 14.56
%; then followed by the services sector at 17%; transport and communication 10%;
finance, leasing and corporate services 6.00%; mining and quarrying 2% and processing
industry 1%.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Transportation
The transportation system in Pagar Alam City consists of road transport. Land
transportation infrastructure supported by the network of national, provincial and
regency levels. Overall, the existing transportation infrastructure has reached almost
all parts of Pagar Alam City.

Telecommunication
Communication technologies in Pagar Alam City has been well implemented and have
covered the entire province. Telex and facsimile are already applied to all of area in
Pagar Alam City, especially for activities of government and entrepreneurs.
Telecommunication infrastructures are easy to get even in the urban and rural area.
Energy
In terms of electricity, Pagar Alam City has shown a significance improvement. It can
be seen from the increasing number of electricity production by State Electricity
Company (PLN) until now. Overall, the improvement of energy has shown a great
promise of regional development, especially in rural and remote areas.
Water
Most areas of Pagar Alam City is flowed by rivers. The existence of the rivers in
addition to water and other residence needs. Aside from these rivers, the hydrological
situation in Pagar Alam City is also determined by the presence of swamps, lakes,
dams, reservoirs, springs and boreholes.

ATTRACTION
Pagar Alam City has a number of attractive tourism destination. Ranging from natural
tourist attraction, nature based tourist attraction and historical tourist attraction.
Natural
1. Dempo Mouth
Mount Dempo is the highest mountain in South Sumatra, with a height of 3,195
meters above sea level. Mount Dempo as an active volcano that one part of the Bukit
Barisan Mountains that has two peaks, namely Dempo peak and the peak of Merapi.
Mount Dempo has a very beautiful scenery. The uniqueness of this mountain is the
uniqueness of this mountain is a crater that can change color, sometimes white, gray
and blue
2. Embun Waterfall
Embun waterfall located in the District of North Dempo, is 15 km from the center of
Pagar Alam. High waterfall is 100 meters, only the volume of water is not too large.
High waterfall with a small volume of water into the unique character of this
waterfall, so the water spilled from the height will become like the dew when he
reached the bottom.
3. Mount Dempo Tea Plantations
Mount Dempo tea plantations located in the district of Pagar Alam the north, with an
area of 3,000 hectares, located 6 km from the city center. This plantation is one of
the Dutch heritage built in 1926. In the area of tea plantations tourists can enjoy the
beauty and natural panorama of green tea plantations with the background of Mount
Dempo and city view of Pagar Alam.
Historical Tourist Atraction
1. Tanjung Aro Megalith Sites
Tanjungaro megalith sites located in the district of northern natural fence, within
approximately 6 km from the city center. There is stone house, dolmen and a stone
statue of man entwined snakes that we can find in this megalith sites.

ACCESSIBILITIES
Pagar Alam City is relatively easy to reach by both domestic and international tourist.
The main entry is through Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin I International Airport in
Palembang City. From the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin I International Airport, tourist
can reach Pagar Alam City via land transportation, which takes around 7 hours by car,
though it depends on which destination that the tourists are going to visit, considering
the area of the City. There is also direct flight from Halim International Airport of
Jakarta to Atung Bungsu Airport of Pagar Alam. There is only need 90 minutes with 2
filght times a week.

TOURISM POSITION ON REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Tourism has become one of the main priority sector for development by the local
government. The government and the community have fully aware of the Pagar Alam
City tourism resources and its potential for economic contribution through tourism
development. They are welcoming every investors that are willing to cooperate not only
on developing more tourism attraction and facilities but also to develop in all of tourism
aspects of Pagar Alam City.
