Summary

This is a discussion and knowledge exchange session on best

practices to support data digitization and publishing through

the GBIF network, which is one of the key functions of GBIF

Nodes, but it is also one of the most challenging.

In this session we will concentrate on addressing social and

cultural barriers to the publishing of valuable data.

With this presentation we just want to bring some ideas to the

table to start the discussions.

2. Call upon commitments or legal mandates.

3. Call upon open access / moral principles.

4. Show the benefits of a better data management.

5. Show the benefit for their scientific careers.

6. Peer pressure.

7. Start / support big digitization programmes.

8. Start / support data repatriation efforts.
