• Upon completion of remedial action, hazardous substances,pollutants, or contaminants remain aboveabove levels that allowfor unlimited use and unrestricted exposure

• Any Record of Decision signed on or after October 17, 1986[effective date of Superfund Amendments andReauthorization Act (SARA)]

• Selected remedy will not allow for unlimited use and unrestrictedexposure

• Remedial action construction– Initiation of construction triggers the Five-Year Review clock

• First Five-Year Review completed within five years

• Subsequent Five-Year reviews completed no later than five years after previous Five-Year Review reports

• Landfill operated from 1950 through 1967

• Approximately 90,000 cubic yards domestic waste

• Approximately 10 acres

• Final Record of Decision June 2002

• Landfill cover construction 2003

Major components of the Site 22 remedy include:

• Multi-layer, engineered cover– Layers of soil, gravel, cement, and cobblestone

• Groundwater monitoring (10 wells)

• Landfill gas monitoring (Four perimeter wells, 15 surface locations, 13 perimeter locations)

• Maintain cover integrity

• Institutional controls
