History• 18th century, Dharavi was an

island.• February 1739, Chimnaji attacked

Bassein before, he took possession of Dharavi

• Before 19th century, it was habited by Koli Fishermen.

• Gujarat came to establish potter business

• Maharastrian established leather tanning industry.

• In Dharavi 1st school made in 1930 which lasted for 4 decades.

• 1930 single road from Dharavi went to main railway station.

• Dharavi’s co-operator society was formed in 1960s. Uplift the lives of slum dwellers by making 338 flats and 97 shops name Dr. Baliga Nagar.

came and settled• The main slum in Mumbai is

Dharavi• Uncounted number of mice• Covers area of 535 acres• Modern Dharavi has

population between 600,000 and over 1 million people.

that in the darker side people are dying from hunger

• Behavior with slums like enemies• Higher and lower classes• Without slum they won’t live but, still

hates them.

• Roads made by dirt• Sandwich between two main

suburban railway lines• Western and central railways• West are Mahim and Bundra• People dying for food but, no help

comes• Children dies from hunger• People lives in pressure of Poverty • In the Raining season houses flood

with water where, they are left with nothing
