government have promoted the

name Myanmar as a

conventional name for their

state; the US Government has

not adopted the name.

• Basically the fertile valley and

delta of the Irawaddy River.

• 89% Buddhist

• Capital moved from Yangon

(Rangoon) in the delta to

Paypyidaw which is deep in the

interior in 2005.
