With a deep understanding of the requirements from
operators and the development trend of microwave,
Huawei Technologies has developed RTN 900 series,
the first Packet microwave radio transmission system in
the industry. Taking the advantages of IP-oriented and
broadband-oriented features, RTN 900 series have helped
hundreds of operators achieve the transformation towards
All-IP.
RTN 900 series have been designed with packet switching
core. Pure packet architecture is adopted for air interface to
greatly increase the efficiency of data transmission. The RTN
900 family is composed of RTN 910 and RTN 950, which
are based on the same hardware and software platform.
The RTN 910, a 1U-high and pluggable device with two RF
directions, is mainly used for site access. The RTN 950, a 2U
high and pluggable device with six RF directions, is mainly
used at convergence layer. The RTN 900 series can share
service boards, IF boards and outdoor units such as ODUs
and antennas.

In the microwave radio domain, Huawei boasts cutting-edge technologies in wireless radio frequency (RF),
IP-based data communications, and optical transmission. This advantage is backed by a team of hundreds of
experienced R&D engineers engaged in radio technologies and product R&D in Huawei research centers in

With the development of mobile broadband services and rapid network expansions, however, operators
face the challenges of limited bandwidth and frequency spectrum resources and ever-changing service
requirements. Huawei has launched the innovative RTN 900 series digital IP radio systems, which are used on
transport networks as part of the mobile backhaul evolution from 2G to 3G/Wimax/LTE. These series systems
provide efficient packet data transmission and protect the original network investments, thus scaling down on
operators' network CAPEX and OPEX

RTN 900 series radio is built based on packet switching, as
the unique IP radio device supporting end-to-end MPLS. It
builds out connection-oriented packet networks with other
equipment. The RTN 900 not only protects the network
investments but also supports smooth network evolution
towards packet networks.
IP-based OAM& protection: Ethernet /MPLS OAM for link
fault detection and performance monitoring implements
dedicated network management; ERPS and LSP protection
ensures carrier-class network reliability.
IP-based synchronization: Synchronous Ethernet and
IEEE1588v2 meet the requirement of phase and frequency
synchronization for 2G/3G/Wimax/LTE, saving the investment
on GPS deployment.
IP oriented microwave, meeting the requirements of network evolution
towards All-IP backhaul.

Unified NMS solution for microwave and optical equipments,
provisions any end-to-end service with simple point-and-click
operations, which enables end-to-end service management
and enhances the efficiency of network operation.
Easy Installation and Commission: Synergy with wireless
network, unified network design & installation;
Supports pre-installation based on the site type, simplifying •
goods delivery.
Network planning for both the microwave radio •
transmission network and the wireless network can be done
by one associated group, streamlining the resources and
achieving high accuracy in network planning to improve
efficiency by 70%.
Construction of microwave radio networks and wireless •
base stations can be done by the same contractors,
reducing the engineering expenses. In this manner,
concurrent site survey and concurrent equipment
installation for the radio networks and wireless base
stations shorten the deployment duration by 30%.

CAPEX and OPEX.
RTN 900 series radio implements 4 layer of header
compression (MAC-VLAN-MPLS-IP). The advanced header
compression technology achieves 1 Gbps bandwidth per
carrier and boosts the maximum capacity of 4Gbps per radio,
meeting the bandwidth requirement for mobile backhaul.
The hittless adaptive modulation (AM) technology
automatically adjusts the modulation schemes based on the
quality of radio links over the air interfaces and effectively
enhances the spectrum usage efficiency, so as to maximize
the transmission bandwidth at a fixed spectrum. Compared
with the technology using a fixed modulation mode, the AM
technology increases the transmission bandwidth by up to 4
times and cuts the spectrum expense.
Combined with advanced capacity-bundling features like
the Radio-Side LAG and Load Balancing Link Aggregation in
N+0 ,true Gbit/s capacity is achieved by Microwave Radio in
traditional RF bands.
