Sadly its time to say goodbye
Our Year 6’s last day at Great Massingham School was on Friday 12th July as they took part in the early transition to High School from Monday 15th July. We wish Sophie, Bryony, Rosie, Gabriel, Cody and Maisy-Rae every success in the
future.
We will also be saying goodbye to Noah (Class 2), Eden and Freya at the end of term. We wish them well
in their new schools.
Mrs Stephens will begin her maternity leave at the end of term and Mrs Stuart (Maternity Cover) will join us for one day a week in September in Class 1. Mrs Karen Heath will be joining us as a teaching assistant in
Class I from September.
We wish you all a very happy summer holiday and look forward to seeing you in September. School will close for the summer holiday at 2.30pm on
Wednesday 24th July and will reopen on Wednesday 4th September 2019.
As soon as we have news of Mrs Cross’s new baby we will let you know.

STAFFING FROM SEPTEMBER 2019
Mrs Beardall, Headteacher, will work between both schools on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs Stibbon, Assistant Headteacher, will work on a Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday. We will publish their planned weekly timetable in September.

In addition, Mrs Susan Wood, will continue to work on Tuesday afternoons as SENDCo
support, assisting Mrs Beardall with SEND admin paperwork.
Denise, Liz and Lee will share the MSA duties across the week.
Mrs Smith will be in the school office on a Monday and Thursday all day and on
Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
HOLIDAYS IN TERM TIME
We cannot authorise any
holidays in term time.
A leave of absence form must be completed if parents plan to take pupils out of school in term time. If leave of
absence is granted the absence will be recorded as unauthorised. Further action may be taken in line with Local
Authority guidelines on fines for term time holidays if time off exceeds 10
sessions of unauthorised absence.
SCHOOL MEALS
The Summer Term menu will continue until 18th October. Children in Class 1
will continue to be eligible for a free school meal each day (Universal Infant
Free School Meals). Children can order a hot meal, a jacket potato or a packed lunch. For children in Class 2 meals
cost £2.30 each. Please send payment
into school in a named envelope.
UNIFORM
Our uniform suppliers are Wovina and My Clothing,

The Governing Body request that all
children attending Great Massingham School support its positive image in the community by wearing school uniform
and having appropriately coloured/styled hair. The wearing of nail polish
and tattoo transfers is discouraged as it can be distracting for pupils. Girls and Boys must have long hair tied and/or
clipped back for health and safety
reasons.
Great Massingham uniform consists of
navy sweatshirt/cardigan or jumper
with or without logo,
navy polo shirt,
black or grey trousers/skirts/
pinafore dresses or shorts,
Girls may wear a blue and white
checked dress in warm weather.
School shoes (not trainers) should be black or brown and, for safety reasons, strappy or high-heeled sandals/shoes
must not be worn.
In winter/wet weather pupils who come to school wearing boots should change
into indoor shoes or plimsolls in school.
Jewellery should not be worn – this includes loom bands, wristbands etc. with the exceptions of small stud
earrings, wristwatches and attendance award wristbands. If wristwatches are worn, it is at the wearer’s own risk. The
school is not responsible for their damage or loss. For safety reasons
children must remove watches and earrings for PE. Children should remove and be responsible for their own
earrings. If your child is unable to do this please remove earrings at home
before school on PE days.
Please ensure all clothing and
belongings are clearly named so that lost property can be identified and
returned.
SCHOOL TIMES
School starts at 8.55am. Please make sure your children are in
school by 8.50am for an 8.55am start. The school gate opens at
8.45am.
DAILY MILE
A huge well done to all pupils for
participating in the run each day. We run at 9.00am everyday,
parents welcome. If you would like to join
us please wait on the playground at the front
of the school.
LITCHAM BOOK QUIZ AND MATHS QUIZ
Well done to our team of four (Sophie, Emily, Beatrice and Tilly-Grace) for winning
the Cluster Book Quiz on Monday 8th July.
MULTISPORTS AFTERSCHOOL CLUB
Amy from Top Sport will run an afterschool
multisports club for Years 1 to 6 on a Friday afternoon for 6 weeks in the Autumn Term. This will be paid from the PE Grant
SPRING CRAFT CLUB
Mrs Stibbon will run an after school Craft Club in the Spring Term on a Thursday. This will be open to all the children. She
would welcome a parent helper. Please let Mrs Smith know if you would be able to help with the after school club. Thank you.
ARK CLUB
The first Ark Club during the Autumn Term
will be on Thursday 19th September. Thank you to Mrs Frazer for organizing this after school club - the children have lots of fun
playing games, art activities, etc.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR MUSIC LESSONS
Stef Judd will continue to come into school
every Friday morning to provide music tuition and Benjamin Howell will visit on a Thursday afterschool to provide piano
lessons. Anyone interested in drum or piano lessons should ask Mrs Smith for
details.
SWIMMING
We will be swimming on a Thursday afternoon at the CITB pool from 2-3pm
in the autumn term instead of in the spring as in past years. Children will
need a swimming costume and a towel.
Non-swimmers will need arm bands — blown up please. We would welcome
volunteers to help in the water with our Reception class. Please let Mrs Smith know if you are willing to help. Our
first swimming day will be on Thursday
12th September. Letter attached.
KEY STAGE 2 MUSIC
Class 2 will continue Ukulele
lessons with Richard Hall on a
Monday afternoon.
PE KIT
Please make sure children have their
PE kits in school every day next term. PE kit consists of: White Polo Shirt or
White T Shirt with or without logo.
Navy/black shorts, trainers and a
tracksuit.
SWAP AFTERNOON
We will be continuing the Science/
Languages Swap Day with Harpley for Key Stage 2 every Wednesday
afternoon.
Thank you to volunteers Julian, Joyce, Barbara,
Kerri, Jemma and Lucy for helping with the
school garden. Our school garden has looked fabulous again this year, especially the wild flower
area. The children have grown
potatoes, onions, strawberries,
rhubarb, broad beans, carrots and
spring onions. Gardening Club will continue in the Autumn Term.
Thank you to Nancy Kellogg for her generous
donation for school library books
Thank you to Chris Davison for running the
school library again this year.
Thank you to our wonderful PFA who have
supported many of our school visits this year. We
are very grateful for all they do for the school.
The visit to Matilda The Musical at the Theatre
Royal in Norwich was a highlight of the year for
the children as was the Fun Afternoon on Friday 12th July. The cake raffle
has also been very popular.
And thank you to all who helped with
swimming and cycling training.

We have had another busy year with lots of ‘extras’. Our children are
really fortunate to have a supportive PFA who fund and subsidise
activities and staff who are willing to organise visits and activities.
Visits and activities this year have included:-
KS2: Ancient House Museum in Thetford, Apple Store in Norwich (Year 6),
Trampolining at the Gravity Centre in Norwich (Year 6), Y6 Crucial Crew personal
safety training at King’s Lynn Fire Station, Federation Day KS2 visit to Sheringham,
Year 6 Cycling Proficiency, Cycling Proficiency Years 3,4 and 5, Gresham’s Cross
Country, Andy Briggs (Author Visit) at Litcham High School for Years 5 and 6, Helen
Moss Workshop at Litcham High School for Years 2, 3 and 4, Residential Visit to
Horstead, Matilda The Musical at Norwich Theatre Royal.
FS/KS1: Federation Cathedral visit; Federation Amazona zoo visit; Sheringham Park
visit (pond dipping, den building, etc); Matilda The Musical at Norwich Theatre Royal.

Extra-curricular activities provide opportunities for extending learning beyond the classroom and encourage and support all pupils who wish to attend to develop an
interest in subjects outside the classroom.
Extra-Curricular/After School: Multi sports sessions for Years 1-6, Dodgeball After
School Club, Basket Ball After School Club, Gardening Club, Ark Club, guitar and
drum tuition with Stef Judd, piano lessons with Benjamin Howell.

SWIMMING
Dear Parents
As part of the PE curriculum the whole school will be swimming in the Autumn Term starting on Thursday 12th September. We will be going for 12 weeks, leaving school at 1.15pm and returning at 3.40. Please note the late return time. The last lesson will be on Thursday 5th December 2019.
The children will need:
* one piece swimming costume/trunks (not Bermuda style shorts)
* towel
* swimming hat (named)
* a waterproof bag
* armbands (if needed)
If your child needs to swim with armbands they should be sent with their swimming kit, inflated and ready to use to avoid wasting swimming time. Bircham will not provide any armbands.
Children may wear track suits to school or school sweatshirts and track suit bottoms on a Friday. Please name all items of clothing including underwear and shoes!
Jewellery should not be worn and stud earrings must be removed.
Permission is covered under the local visits permission as sent out recently.
Please let Mrs Smith know if you are able to help with swimming.
