1. Identify and discuss informal opportunities to tell your library story.
2. Develop a one-minute library speech.
3. Practice delivering your one-minute library speech and receive feedback from your peers.

• Libraries have wonderful, often untold stories to tell.
• Everyday encounters can provide opportunities to tell your library story—you need to be ready.

Preparing to Tell Your Library Story
• Target audience perceptions—what they know, think, and feel about the library, help you determine the types of messages and story elements that will be effective.
• Effective advocacy messages have one main message and up to three supporting messages that can be tailored for specific audiences.

• Three main elements that help make a library story interesting and memorable: Strong advocacy message or messages Anecdotes Quantitative data
• Different types of stories may appeal to different target audiences Factual, anecdotal, inspirational, or a
combination of all three
