P1 ENHANCED LSM

• At the start of the year, Early Numeracy Indicator test (ENI) was administered to all P1 pupils to assess their mathematical language and numerical skills.

• The focus of Enhanced LSM is on basic mathematical skills/ concepts to build good foundation.

• Aims to support pupils with weak basic numeracy and build pupils’ confidence and positive beliefs about their ability to do Math.

• P1 Enhanced LSM lessons will be conducted by Enhanced LSM coordinator during the Math lessons.

• Briefing for parents of P1 and P2 Enhanced LSM pupils will be conducted on 20 February 2014.

P1 SBC focus on the words recognition, aiming to promote reading at young age. Through interesting and rhythmic children songs, stories or games, the students learn to recognize Chinese words.

The Chinese words are carefully chosen and are close to them in their daily lives, thus making it easier for them to comprehend and recognize.

The students will work in groups, role play and show their creativity in their group presentations. It is also a good platform for them to foster teamwork and respect among classmates, improve their communication and presentation skills.

• Show and Tell: Term 3 (details will be made known to students at a later date)

• Mini Tests in T2, T3 & T4 (TOS will be given).

• Parent’s Signature: required for all spellings and some worksheets

• To bring Chinese Story Book on Fridays for silent reading in the hall.

Parents’ role:Help to ensure that your child take good care of the books & encourage them by reading with them.

Tips for Parents 小建议

• To encourage your child to borrow Mother Tongue Language story book from the library;

• To make an effort to converse in Mother Tongue Language at home;

• To read Mother Tongue Language story book together with your child whenever possible;

• To arrange for your child to watch educational TV programmes or videos from the internet;

• To work closely with Mother Tongue Language teacher via student handbook, voice call or email.

WHAT IS FAMILY TIME?

A new feature in the Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) lessons provides suggested activities for families to bond.

Family Time includes: Active Dialogue Bonding Time Continuous Feedback

Brochure on “Family Time” will be given to the pupils.

I-CARE CARD Launching I-care Card in Term 2 for P1

and P2 pupils.

I-card card consist of values and good habits that we want pupils to acquire. E.g. I can pack my schoolbag (Responsibility).

Parents are encourage to give written feedback on the card. Feedback can be written in English or MT language.

If a child is absent on the day of the scheduled assessment, his/her absence has to be supported with a medical certificate (MC).

The child will receive a “VR” (absent with valid reasons supported with MC) for that particular assessment and his/her final grade will be pro-rated.

Without the MC, no marks will be awarded.

CCA POLICYObjectives of Co-curricular Activities

(CCAs): CCAs are an integral part of our

students’ holistic, well-rounded education. They aim to build character, inculcate values and develop leadership amongst our pupils as they learn, collaborate and interact with one another as well as the community at large.

CCA POLICY All CCAs are official school activities and all

pupils from P3 to P6 are to participate in at least one CCA.

Pupils from P1 & P2 may choose to join a CCA with parents’ consent.

Pupils need to achieve a minimum attendance rate of 75% in the CCA. Pupils will be awarded badges (CCA Star) yearly if they attain 90% annual attendance rate.

School Safety Matters and Student Well-Being• Absences – Parents to call teacher when your

child is absent.

• Contagious Diseases (H1N1, HFMD)

- The need to practise social responsibility.

- To submit mc when child is back.

- Re-certification from doctor is needed if child were to attend school prior to mc expiry.

• Valid MC required if child is absent from school during exam period.

• The need for child to keep a working thermometer in their bags at all times.

• Ensure your child packs his/her school bag according to his/her timetable to reduce the mass of the bag.

• Importance of having sufficient rest and having breakfast daily.
