Agency Mission & Description
The Mission of the New Mexico Public Education Department is to provide leadership, technical
assistance, and quality assurance to improve performance of all students and close the achievement
gap.
Purpose of Posit ion
This position serves as the State National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) Coordinator and
is the liaison between the NM Public Education Department (PED) and the National Center forEducation Statistics (NCES), which administers the NAEP.
Duties Include
Coordinates the use of NAEP results for pol icy and program planning.
Analyzes and reports NAEP data.
Promotes understanding about NAEP.
Disseminates and communicates NAEP results to stakeholders.
Coordinates the analysis and interpretat ion of NAEP data and the preparat ion of special state-levelreports to inform policy decisions.
Provides technical assistance to the state and local education agencies and other target audiences on
how to use NAEP data.
Educational requirements
A Master's Degree in Education, Research and/or Statistics is required for this posit ion.
Experience
Six (6) years recent teaching experience in the core content areas of Mathematics, English or Science
and experience in utilizing large scale assessment data in one of these core content areas to inform
instruct ion and curriculum. (The timeframe for' recent experience' must be within the last 12 months)
Supplemental Skills/Abilities
A current teaching license issued from the NM Public Education Department (NMPED) or the ability to
obtain a valid New Mexico License within ninety (90) days from the time of hire is preferred but not
required.
Working Environment
Work is performed in an office setting. Occasional overnight travel and/or additional work hours may be
required.

Education Department and the Nat ional Center of Educat ion Statistics; at tend meetings, trainings and
conferences as required; promote assessment literacy through better understanding about NAEP andlarge-scale assessment; coordinate communication of NAEP information to state policy makers, local
school administrators, classroom teachers, parents, and the public; coordinate and monitor the review
of NAEP assessment data within NM; prepare annual work plans and final project reports; provide
NAEP-related technical assistance to the state, local education agencies, and other audiences; and
perform other related duties as assigned. Supervise the GED Office as the 10% state related work
responsibilities.
Educational requirements
A Master's degree in an education-related field. Coursework in statistics, assessment, and/or
experience in working with assessment data.
Experience
Any combination of experience in educational administration, testing/assessment, accountabili ty, and/or
instructional support total ing ten (10) years.
Employment Requirements
A current Administrator License issued by the New Mexico Public Educat ion Department
Supplemental Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of assessment, statistics, and professional development with adults is essential. Computer
literacy is required.
