A public – private partnership for summer paid internships

Starting in Summer of 2015

Participating businesses are provided up to 50% of cost of employing a youth during a 6-8 week internship

Goal: 150 youth to participate with businesses

Business participation:• Employ youth for 6 to 8 week internship,

providing valuable work experience

• Pay for the youth and receive reimbursement from the City– Minimum wage plus legal benefits

• $7.90 / hr plus 15.3% legally required benefits

• Participate in 2-hr mentor orientation

Business Participation:• Sign a letter of agreement with City

regarding participation• Become a vendor for City to receive

reimbursement (W-9 form)

• Submit invoice to City for reimbursement after internship completed

City of Phoenix Responsibilities:• Recruit youth • Match youth to intern request from

businesses– Pre-Screen youth– Opportunity for business to interview youth– Conduct background tests / drug test / etc

• Work with youth contractor for work readiness training for youth participants

regarding youth participants• Process invoices at end of internship

program for businesses

Contractor to provide valuable intern opportunity to 120 youth for 5-weeks

• Mentor youth in world of work

• Participated in 2 hour mentor orientation during June (receive handbook & additional information)

• Complete survey regarding participation

current state of summer programming • Brainstorm ideas to address needs and improve

opportunities for young people• Develop recommendations on a forward path into

the Future for Phoenix-metro area• Brandeis University will be in town with ACYR and

the City of Phoenix on April 21 – 22 to develop a roadmap of support for summer/year-round youth employment initiatives
