Repeat Process

An ongoing process in which educators work collaboratively in recurring cycles of collective inquiry and action research to achieve better results for the students they serve.

PLC’s operate under the assumption that the key to improved learning for students is continuous, job-embedded learning for educators.

Just as it would be considered “Medical Malpractice” for doctors not to keep up with current research-based best medical practices, it should be considered “Educational Malpractice” for educators who are not willing to instruct using research-based best instructional practices, such as developing a Professional Learning Community.

Help students learn at higher levels.

Take collective responsibility for student learning.

Express greater professional satisfaction.

Institutionalize continuous

improvement.

practice.

Benefit from the most powerful form

profession.

Teachers must work collaboratively rather than in isolation.

Teachers must agree on the essential learning all students must acquire.

Teachers must agree on how students will demonstrate their learning.

Teachers must assess their individual and collective effectiveness on the basis of the evidence of student learning.

With your team, use your

curriculum and tools to

determine what essential

standards you will teach.

Be sure each team member

agrees to guarantee mastery of

those standards for all of your

students.

Discuss what the essential

standards mean to be sure all

instructors are teaching to the
