Tip #1: Print the covers on card stock. Glue them to

the cover of your notebook. I use clear contact paper

to keep them on all year. See it HERE.

Tip #2: Use colorful duct tape to help identify the various

journals you may have in your classroom. See it HERE.

TIPS!

Use the covers that are in this unit or click on this image for another option (It is free!)

Weekly Lesson Plan suggestionMonday: We read the poem

and students add the poem

to their notebooks and

illustrate it in the space

provided.

Tuesday: Students

complete this page with

guidance.

This page is not

included in this

packet. It can

be found in the

monthly poem

units.

These two pages should be facing each other in the book, because the students

may need to refer to the poem from time to time to complete the journal tasks.

We start each week with a new poem. We use the same poem for the entire week.

Each day we read or sing the poem several times. I also use the poem during

transition times. I sing the song as we transition. The students will echo me at the

beginning of the week, then join in as the week continues

Wednesday and

Thursday: As various

students are called to

the pocket chart to

complete a word work

activity, the rest of the

class are completing the

same activity in their

notebook.
