自序

色、香、味俱全是料理的基礎;色、形、體則是我作為一位平面設計師

對設計作品的基本要求。

色就是「顏色」。顏色可說是人與設計作品之間溝通的語言,當在設計

酒標時,我會考慮到客群的年齡、地位而選用能符合他們身分,促進彼

此溝通對話的顏色。當語言相通時,溝通自然順暢。形是指「形狀」。

設計企業標誌時常需要將無形的概念轉化為有形。

體則是「體會」。這也可說是設計師個人對設計物品的感觸。就像是設

計一座時鐘;時鐘不只作為告知時間之用,還要具備喚起人們重新思考

時間觀念的效用。設計者透過審視周遭環境,以及觀察人事物隨時間變

化的感受,將心中所覺足以加深人與物(時鐘)之間緊密互動的創意具

體呈現在作品上。

設計是我對生活的體現。對我來說,每項設計案就有如一道料理,從構

思菜色、食材準備,到最後的擺盤呈現,每個細節都是重點。說設計是

人與人之間的一種視覺溝通模式也不為過;如何讓作品本身具備感動人

的能量,且能吸引人們的目光停駐,這是我一向致力呈現的設計力。未

來我也將繼續用心感受世界、用心生活,並將生活中的各種體驗融入設

計作品中,相信能夠表述設計精神的作品一定能深入人心。

CONCEPT

Color, smell, and taste are basics of the cuisine; color, form, and mood are my principles as a graphic designer.

Color can be said as the language of the communication between people and the design work. When I was designing wine labels, I would take into account the age and status of the target group, and chose colors that meet the group’s taste. Using the same language (color) improved the communication. The form is the “shape”, to convert an abstract concept into a tangible shape is also a challenge for graphic designer. Last but not least, the mood is the “experience”, which are the feelings evoked from the design work. Take an example of designing the enso clock; a clock not only inform time, but also have users rethink the idea about time. The clock comprises my experience through an examination of the surroundings, as well as the observation of changes of people and things over time. That deepens the interaction between people and the clock.

Graphic design is a manifestation of my life. For me, it is like making cuisine. From conception, preparation, to final presentation, each step is important. It is also a visual communication between people. How to make the work itself get into viewers’ minds are what I have always been committed to my work. In the future, I will continue to live hard and work hard; inspiring from life experience and integrate into my works. I believe the works that expressed the spirit of the design will stay in our minds.

I chose Strathmore Elements as my company. It is a super smooth sheet with a lines pattern that creates visual texture and matching solid sheets which both deliver extraordinary ink holdout and superior opacity.

Just like how chemical elements define papers’ texture, brightness and weight, the chemical elements in our brain drive our daily behaviors and emotions. Inspired by Dr. Helen Fisher, who is a expert to the chemistry of love, she, In her book, Why We Love, explained how chemical elements worked in our brain in a romantic relationship. She proves that romance is not mere an emotion but it is a drive as powerful as hunger. In this book, I talked about how the chemical elements in our brain works when we fall in love. It’s a book that celebrates love.

_ I N G R E D I E N T S

You are responsible for designing a clock and putting the design into fabri-cation. Based on your design, search for an existing brand that matches the concept, and design an appropriate package for the clock.

_ D I R E C T I O N S

The design of the clock was inspired by the zen garden, which stresses asymmetry, nature, profundity and tranquility. All these traits are consid-ered and I attempted to execute them in the clock design. Enso in Japanese means circle, which is a concept strongly associated with zen.

The Enso clock strives for simplisticity that will redefine how we think of time while retrieving the analogous look in today’s digitized world. By placing it in one’s personal space, it takes on the context which its be-ing placed in. It should integrated seamlessly in various types of interior spaces, regardless of the material surrounding it in both office and home.

Create a new identity, application system and graphic standards manual for a social media company. You will be responsible for the creation of a symbol, wordmark or communication of both.

_ D I R E C T I O N S

Foursquare is a location-based social networking application for mobile devices that people used to interact wit with their environment. The com-pany was created in 2009 and in 2012, it had 20 million registered users worldwide. It currently supports 10 other languages than English.

To differentiate Foursquare from it main competitor, Yelp, I based my con-cept on the idea that Foursquare was an app as someone that really knows me. Unlike Yelp’s generic listings, I created unique icons for each category that user can easily find what they are looking for, and use bright colors to make it more interesting and user friendly.

Aston Martin is well-known as James Bond’s car in the movie 007. A dis-tinguished heritage, coupled with exceptional design, craftsmanship and quality, has made Aston Martin a globally recognised name with a reputa-tion for understated style and elegance. With these unique qualities in mind, I wanted to create a home collection for the brand. These exclusive items have been carefully selected across a range of products from contem-porary trash cans to technologically advanced razors, toasters to stunning silverware.

Each product will be shown in a crisp photographic style corresponding to that used in a Aston Martin model guide.

Develop an evolutionary and a revolutionary design for spirits. The evolu-tionary design will include maintaining the current bottle shape, front and back labels and neck design.

_ D I R E C T I O N S

The brand that I chose was Highland Park Scotch Single Malt Whisky. For the evolutionary design, I wanted to retain its signature qualities—the black label and color coding for different years, but also edit elements to create a balanced design that better communicates the whisky’s premium quality and its brand heritage.

For the revolutionary design, I wanted to focus on a 45-55 year-old whisky drinkers and to reach a higher price point. The design incorporated the il-lustration of the Highland Park Distillery where the best spirit in the world was produced to celebrate its rich brand heritage and craft.
