Subject Specific Examples- Website

• Design & Manufacture – 2 units, 1 assignment, 1 exam.• Approximately 40% of the course award is based on performance in a final exam; 30% on a design task; and

30% on a practical activity based on the design. Both the design and practical tasks are completed in class time

• Revision materials and resources will be issued in class and will also be accessible on Office 365. Class notes are encouraged to be used as a regular revision aid throughout the year.

• Students are encouraged to practice sketching, rendering, and idea generation techniques to build skills for the final assignment. This can be done at any time with just pencil and paper.

• The department is open for revision or questions all through the year. “

• Students studying National 5 will be assessed regularly but will be working towards a whole course award rather than unit assessments. All N4 students will be working on unit assessments throughout the session. Any N5 student on the borderline of N4 will have backup material collated but may still have to complete some additional work during exam leave in May to ensure all the requirements for N4 are met.”

• Assessment calendar of key dates is being compiled- alleviate pressure points/hot spots

• Formal Assessment Period replacing Prelims- Mon 3rd Dec x 2 weeks• Student Feedback in focus groups

• Very positive in other schools

• Part of a series of ongoing formative assessment

• Carried out formally- invigilators, in hall, will replicate the experience but perhaps not the full length of the exam

Examples:A candidate who is profoundly deaf, and who uses sign, may need sign support to access an assessment task

A candidate experiencing mental health difficulties, who is very lethargic first thing in the morning due to medication, may need the start time of an assessment adjusted

A candidate with dyslexia, who experiences difficulties with reading, may need to use a coloured overlay and may also need extra time to complete an assessment

A candidate with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) who has persitent difficulties with concentrating, may need a separate room with supervised rest breaks

Work Experience 2019 -2020

• Obtain tariff points through completing Work Placement units at level 4 or 5

• Gain insight into the wider world of work • Put employability skills into action e.g. teamwork and good timekeeping • Develop self awareness and confidence • Understand the links between school subject and world of work • Meet new people who could help them in the future

Rationale and Benefits

• All pupils will be provided with work experience booklet and self found work placement forms.

• All parents/carers will be provided with work experience booklets
