Item Action
1 Minutes
The Minutes of the meeting on 6 March 2018 were approved and signed for filing.
2 Matters arising from previous meeting
There were no matters arising not included in the agenda.
3 Practice matters
1. Building:
Jo reported that the NHS-appointed builder had gone out of business within a month of starting the
project but that a replacement had been quickly appointed. The Practice now has much more
involvement in managing the project. The disruption means the Reception area should be finished
by 2nd July, when the Yellow and Blue entrances will no longer be needed, and the building work is
due for completion by 31st August. Jo thanked the PPG for their help in guiding patients during the
first few Blue and Yellow days.
If there is to be a Grand Opening it will be in the Autumn and might be linked to a NHS 70th
celebration.
2. Kingston Bagpuize/Southmoor Surgery
Rob said that the village’s request to the OCCG for a local surgery had been rejected because the
area does not meet the minimum 8,000 patients criteria. The WHMP has also asked for funds for a
branch clinic which was likewise rejected. Rob noted that the previous village hall clinic had been
poorly attended. Rob added that the Wantage request to extend their building had been turned
down.
WHMP delivers prescriptions to the village Post Office in KBS for patients to collect. The latest
increase in house building in the village may favour a pharmacy application.

3. Developer funds for WHMP
Jo said that £80,000 might be available from Part 1 of the Park Road site. No money was
expected from Steeds Farm Part 2. The Practice are still hopeful that the Highworth Rd
development may generate a contribution. Gene recommended a policy of constant attention
when pursuing developer funds.
Rob said that the current building work will cater for 20,000 patients (15,600 at present). Longer
term, the Practice may be responsible for a further 8-10,000 patients.
4. Engage Consult
Rob said that traffic is building, currently at 2 or 3 a day. The facility is not yet ready for publicising.
(Rob’s comments on the Patient Access snafu are under AOB.)
5. Triage
Triage continues to work as planned. If a patient does not need to be seen immediately the
doctor/nurse can add a date flag to call them at the appropriate time, to fix the appointment. This
reduces DNAs.
6. Business Plan
Rob said that a 3-5 year business plan is planned but there’s no delivery date yet. The doctors’
timetable publicised in the Spring Healthy Times is still largely correct and Gene will cover it in the
Faringdon website and possibly the town Facebook page.
7. NHS at 70
Any activity will be incorporated into any official re-opening ceremony for the building.

4 Team Updates
1. SWOLF
Graham summarised the key topics discussed at the most recent SWOLF meeting. The much
improved focus and funding for Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services was very
welcome. David B, with Rob’s help, will feature this in Healthy Times. Rob added that mental
health provision generally was now better funded in the county.
Gene asked about the peripatetic pharmacist programme. Rob said the Practice has already done
the work that would have been covered by the OCCG scheme but the Practice hopes to re-
purpose some of the pharmacist time on offer.
Jo said that some of the Admin and reception staff training has been started. Rob said that
Faringdon’s management plan for the elderly frail covers the ‘Care Navigator’ function.
2. Juxta-Cure dressings
Graham asked about the implementation of this product, now approved by NICE, having
participated in the recent training at the Practice. Rob added that nurses could refer patients
themselves.

3. Healthy Times Autumn issue
David said that Friday Sept 7th would be the traditional publication date but, with the building work
due for completion the previous Friday, it would be sensible to be flexible in case of delays. Jo will
advise him if the schedule slips.
4. NAPP matters.
Referring to recent NAPP Bulletins, Douglas asked who, on the Practice staff, was the nominated
Practice member of this PPG panel. Jo said that both she and Caroline were jointly the official
members and Rob attends by invitation. Douglas asked if the NAPP Bulletin is read by Practice
staff and Jo said that it was not circulated.
Douglas pointed out that there were usually a couple of news items in the Bulletins that would be
of interest to the PPG, often with onward links for more detailed info. It was agreed that he and
Emily, between them, would sift each issue and circulate whatever they thought would be of
interest. David B asked to continue receiving the full Bulletin as it often leads to newsletter stories.
Emily confirmed that she will be going to the annual NAPP conference in Nottingham.
5. Data protection
As the PPG does not hold a list of patients it was noted that the new GDPR regulations do not
apply directly to the group. Rob said that one implication of the new rules is that, if a patient wishes
to have a copy of their medical record, they will need to visit the Health centre to pick it up. There
may need to be a charge for this. Patients can only view their medical records on a Practice
computer.
6. Electronic prescribing
Rob said that, as neither of the Faringdon outlets is an electronic pharmacy, there are no plans to
introduce this. The disruption at Boots, following the latest change of pharmacists, was regretted.
7. PPG resignations
Graham said that his house move was taking longer than expected and he could stay on as
chairman for the time being. David B confirmed that he could continue to guest edit the Healthy
Times when he leaves the PPG after the December meeting.
David G accepted Graham’s invitation to become the new Minute taker with effect from March
2019.
8. New PPG members
No new members were recruited at the Blue and Yellow doors sessions. The recently-updated
PPG flyers could be distributed around town. David B will check with the County Library.
9. PPG who does what schedule
Graham invited members to fill in the blanks at the foot of these Minutes. Douglas will now handle
NAPP alongside Emily, Richard will be the Planning matters specialist and George will look into
patient transport.

1. Health walks
Gene mentioned the Health walks on Wednesdays and will send Rob the details for inclusion on
the GP system.
2. Prescriptions for local or village patients
Rob confirmed that some of the new Faringdon housing developments were partly beyond the one
mile boundary where patients can use the in-house pharmacy. He added that this is very strictly
regulated.
3. Patient Access website upgrade
Rob reported that the problems that Gene and David B had reported about using the Patient
Access website since its recent upgrade were national rather than local and he has switched off
patient use of the site until the issues have been resolved. The PPG urged the Practice to put a
suitable prominent message about this next to the link on the Home page (now done). Patients
needing repeat prescriptions can use the dedicated link on the WHMP site.
4. Nasio Trust https://www.thenasiotrust.org
Graham updated the group on the Medical Centre at the Nasio Trust’s Musanda, Kenya location
which now has four in-patient beds. Rob said that their appeal for visiting doctors would fit very
well with the new trainee GPs now coming through the Practice.
