New Zn(II) complexes with N2S2 Schiff baseligands. Experimental and theoretical studies ofthe role of Zn(II) in disulfide thiolate-exchange
Two potentially tetradentate N2S2 Schiff-base ligands L1 and L2 undergo reductivedisulfide bond scission in alcoholic solutionin the presence of zinc acetate during thecourse of Zn(NS)2 complex formation. The X-ray crystal structures of [Zn(L3)2] and[Zn(L4)2], and theoretical calculations of thetransition state of S–S cleavage are reported.

Synthesis, structural characterization and DFTcalculations of a new one-dimensional diorga-notin(IV) derivative of N-isonicotinyl phosphor-amide
A new 1D diorganotin coordination poly-mer, {SnCl2(CH3)2L}n (1), L = N-isonicoti-nyl, N¢,N00-bis(a-methylbenzyl) phosphorictriamide, was synthesized and character-ized. DFT calculations were performed tocompare the stability of the complex whichshowed trans–cis configuration with its all-trans isomer in the gas phase. AIM analysisconfirmed the dominant electrostatic nat-ure of Sn–ligand interaction.

Synthesis, structure and dioxygen reactivity ofNi(II) complexes with mono-, bis-, tetra- andhexa-oxime ligands
Four new Ni(II) complexes with b-oximi-noalkylamines containing one (Ox1H1), two(Ox2H2), four (Ox4H4) and six (Ox6H6)oxime groups were synthesized and char-acterized. Oxidation of Ph3P with molecu-lar oxygen in presence of these complexeswas studied. Bis-oxime complexNi(Ox2H2)2Cl2 was found to be the mostactive oxidation promoter among the ob-tained nickel complexes.

Synthesis, X-ray structure, electrochemical be-haviour and fluorescence studies of mononuc-lear dioxouranium complexes with oxygendonor ligands
The reaction of monomeric bidentate ligands [(2,6-PhCO)2(4-R)C6H2OH] (R = Me or t-Bu) with [UO2(-NO3)2Æ6H2O] gave uranyl complexes with distortedpentagonal bipyramidal geometry at the metalcentre. The U–Oeq bond lengths increase in the order:phenolic < solvent < carbonyl oxygen. The bidentateOO-donor mdbpH/bdbpH ligands are thus goodchelators for the UO2
2+ ion. The reduction potentialof 2 with a tert-butyl substituent on the phenolatering was shifted to a more negative potential thanthat of 1 with a methyl substituent, reflecting thestronger electron donating ability of the tert-butylgroup. The coordinated neopentanol in 1 is readilydisplaced by DMSO solution. Both complexes exhibitcharacteristic charge transfer emissions.

Structure and photochromism of zinc(II) com-plexes with 1-alkyl-2-(arylazo)imidazole, andthe effect of number of coordinated ligands andhalide type on the photochromism
[Zn(RaaiR/)(DMF)X2] and [Zn(RaaiR/)2X2] (Raa-iR/ = 1-alkyl-2-(arylazo)imidazole and X = Cl,Br, I) are structurally characterized and the UVlight irradiation in DMF solution of the com-plexes show trans-to-cis isomerisation of co-
ordinated azoimidazole. Quantum yields(/tfic) of free ligand are higher than theircomplexes. The cis-to-trans transformation is athermal process and the activation energy (Ea)of the complexes is lower than free ligands. The rate of isomerisation follows [Zn(RaaiR/)2
X2] < [Zn(RaaiR/)(DMF)X2] and [Zn(RaaiR/)n
Cl2] < [Zn(RaaiR/)nBr2] < [Zn(RaaiR/)nI2] (n = 1or 2). It may be related to rotor volume andmass; size and electronegativity of halidewhich increases the effective molar associa-tion in the order of I < Br < Cl. DFT and TD-DFTcomputations of representative complexes areused to explain the difference in the rates andquantum yields of photoisomerisation.
